My heap at 93.46mph . . . . .. .. ..
. . . . .. scares me!
My truck amounts to ~
Suspension:
- The OEM frame connected to the axles with the OEM components (springs, shackles, etc).
- The axles connect to the ground with Centerline forged aluminum 16x10's holding BFG Radial All Terrain A/T's (LT305/70R16).
- Less than a year old Rancho RSX1700's dampen the above.
- Wheel bearings are good.
- Rear axle has 4 or 5 ft ladder bars (I can't remember right now).
Steering:
- Borguson (Sp?) steering shaft.
- All else OEM and is tight as best I know ATM.
- Had the wheel alignment checked not too long ago with all found well.
- Fairly new steering box mount with no cracks, frame welded.
I went with a buddy of mine to a 1/4 mile track today and I made a couple of passes. . . . ...
About the time I first hit 85mph or so, this fella in the back off my head stood up. His name tag read "Pucker". Folks, he went to squealing like a stuck pig! By the time I figured I could get on the brakes, I'm pretty sure I was sporting that "White-Knuckled Death Grip".
Folks, I realize we're driving a brick on wheels when it comes to aerodynamics, but jeez! What can I do to help Keep it straight?
Would a steering stabilizer be of benefit?

Mine feels steady as a rock at 85-90... mind you with 4.10s it's pretty loud. stock super saggy springs. BFG TA/KO 33x12.50 and i'm guessing 3 out of the 4 shocks wouldn't even rebound, lol. Maybe it's the extra frame length....
Are you launching in 4wd?...I would say yes with them 60" times

You might want to get a tape measure out and air the tires up and down to get a the same diameter out of them.
You may have felt like you were about to loose control, because your tires were scrubbing (and slowing your ET and MPH down) and that hire on the back of your head was not giving you false info

Flash.
Try a 70-90 MPH stomp in 4wd and when you filll that same sensation RELEASE THAT SKINNY PEDDLE

Then try it again in 2wd.
In high gear and full boogie, the old rubber band is getting stretched pretty good,.......some thing might be stretching....................
I thing its the tires and you might have to lower the air pressure in the front to compensate for the planting of the tires (w/the latter bar set up

Just make sure all the tires are aired up to the same psi and then you can get more technical about diameter height v pressure..........If necessary.

I do launch in four wheel drive Flash.
That never crossed my mind. It does seem as though it were bucking now that I think about it in that shade of light.
Hmmmm . . . . . . ...

Well I don't believe I can launch that hard in two wheel drive, . . . . not with ten pounds boost anyway. I wonder what the trade off would be . . . . ?
Y'all are gonna make me get a durn throttle stop and a 2-step air shifter aren't you!

good lord! 90MPH in 4WD?! ack! I can imagine having a hard time keeping it under control.
The way my truck is right now, I barely want to take it up to 70...
bad steering shaft, bad drag link, bad front tires and worthless worn out NAPA shocks.
but even if all that stuff were new, it's essentially the same suspension as a covered wagon....

Have you just never even tried a 2wd run? You may have to get some slicks to carry with you when ya hit the track. Jughead runs 8.6's but seems like he runs 9" slicks. It wouldnt shock me -if you could hook- that you pick up time in 2wd youd be spining much less weight? If you try it let us know.
I had mine at about 105 for a couple miles recently and she was rock solid and straight at that speed! Didn't even feel like 100mph
'Nothin like the power of the CTD to push a brick through the air at those speeds in OD at less than full throttle!

THAT IS A GRATE IDEA^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
OK David, this is just hight class dreaming..........but, What if you did put in a one way........

thing of the over ridding clutch or sprag in an auto tranny!!!!!!Ok, the reality would be a lot of $$$$$$ and time, but the theory of it all is cooool
If you had a sprag between or in the t-case so that you could launch in 4wd but as the truck need less traction.........the larger front tires would get ahead of the sprag or free wheel.........This would work grate..........In theory

If your truck decide to get loose down track,.....back tire are now at same speed as front, rear tire stops spinning...............I wish there was a simple way of doing it
