My first cummins diesel
My first cummins diesel
I just purchased a 1992 DCD Xcab 4x4 auto trans. I drove 700 miles round trip to pick it up. So far I love the truck. It is Completely stock except for the wheels and the addition of a heavy tow hitch and air bags on the rear. The only problem I had was I left Olympia Washington(elevation 200') with a full tank of un winterized fuel and headed back to Bend Oregon my fuel started to gel on Mt. hood pass (elevation 4000' and a cool 15 degrees) I started losing power going up the mountain and just barely limped to a D.O.T Maintenance building. The manager at the D.O.T gave me some fuel treatment and helped me change my fuel filter in their heated shop! He and every person working in the shop still owned a first gen. After that it was back to normal. Tps seems to need adj. as it has a hard time shifting into OD @ more than 3/4 throttle any tips there would be appreciated, photos of the linkage would be great too seems to be more springs on the TV than needed.
BTW thanks to Wannadiesel and DBF for replying to my post on what to look for when buying one of these things where just as you said they would be.

Congrats on your new toy. I know you will have as much fun with that truck as I have with mine.I wouldnt think that fuel would jell at 15 degrees. was the truck sitting for a while before you bought it. maybe there was algae in the tank. but I could be wrong on this one. anyhow, welcome to the club and have fun.
Congrats! Now for the fun part. Remove that Aircleaner and send her file 13, and replace with a BHAF(see tech section for part #'s) and get rid of the restrictive muffler device. Thats your homework for this week. Talk to ya in a few. Then we will move up the chain of command. Before you know it....youll be broke...
Congrats on your truck! I am sure you will enjoy it. Just curious, how many miles on it? The TPS seems to be a common thorn in the side for us 1st gen owners. Somewhere on this site you can find how to troubleshoot it and adjust it. If you have trouble finding it let me know and I will see if I can help find it. I am sure someone else will chime in here also.
You should also fill out your signature so everyone knows what kind of truck you have. Again, if you have trouble with that, I or someone else will help you. Welcome to DTR. Its a great and helpful site. (I see you have met wannadiesel. He is the 1st gen guru here!
