modifying an hx35 exhaust housing
I am looking at purchasing an hx35 to use on my 4bt Cummins. The pictures the guy sent me show it has part of the exhaust pipe made into the turbo housing. The pipe looks to angle down about 45 degrees before the clamp. The truck currently has a hood stack which I would like to keep so i'm trying to figure out the best way to modify the exhaust. Welding cast sucks and the rods are expensive. The pipe can be removed by unbolting the rear plate off the housing. I would like some thoughts on just removing that plate and exhaust then making a new rear plate from steel and attaching my own exhaust. The biggest issue I see would be the heating and cooling differences of the cast and steel which could cause the housing to crack.
Any thoughts or other ideas would be appreciated.

I found a seller on eBay that already makes these out of mild steel so I see it is possible. My thoughts are to over drill the bolt holes in the plate by just a little bit. This would allow some movement between the cast housing and plate to relieve stress.
