Marking Engine to show KDP fixed
Marking Engine to show KDP fixed
Does anyone mark their engine to indicate that the kDP and cap bolts have been fixed already? I thought that it would be a good idea, so that the people that inherit the rig know. I was thinking about using that yellow paint that wrecking yards use. but can't decide where on the engine.would be best. Any ideas would be appreciated...Mark
Never thought about doing that....but a great idea!! How about a metal tab stamped with "KDP Done, Case bolts re-torqued, Jan 01/2011" Or maybe a sign shop could make a small decal to attach to the front timing case cover with the same info?
Yeah, a tag would look better. I am going to look at the engine tag when it gets light. I thought maybe an engraved message on it, if there is room. I know that I would have been bummed to get in there and found it done already, because That was the only reason that I took it apart, well only a little bummed

Anybody who'd worry about it would recognize it for what it is; it is as unambigious as I could make it.cheers,

I think he intends to be buried in his.

I think a really good noticable means of identifying that the work has already been done would be a metal tag, probably a brass dog-collar tag, with the info stamped into it and mounted under one of the upper timing-case bolts, where it would be obvious to whoever starts in on it with wrench in hand.
The local feed-mill has a stamping machine that puts anything you desire on up to three lines of a brass collar-tag; I have had various tags stamped with all sorts of information, such as tool-box identification, etc., a buck per tag.

Excellent idea. M dad recently bought a truck at an auction. Big mistake. He ended up rebuilding almost everything on it. After the engine rebuild, I asked if he had the dowel pin fixed. He said "What?". I can't believe the mechanic didn't even know about it.
I revived this old post, because today I finally got around to get the tag made:

I decided to put a little provenance on the back:

My last name has been removed, but is on the tag. I am going to look for a good place to mount it and will post pics. About 8 bucks at petsmart.
