Cool. So they re-used your 1st gen intercooler and re cored it? Or built something custom for your 1st gen.?
If you have a picture of it that would be nice to check out. I find most of the '92/'93 intercoolers I test, leak at this point.
I have been using 2nd gen intercoolers on some of my builds but there is some cutting, welding, grinding and fiddling around to get them to fit. They are much bigger, thicker and the inlet and outlet are larger. It is just a hassle to get them to fit cleanly and by the time I am done everything from and including the turbo to the intake horn has been swapped around.

To test intercoolers for leakage:
I just pull them, then lay them on their front on an old tire and fill them with water. If a puddle forms under it. I can safely assume it leaks.
Almost all 1st gen intercoolers I test pee water out the cores.
I would love to see a picture of the work that shop does.
It might help out a lot of 1st gen guys that do not want to make a different intercooler fit. Not everybody likes all the custom work to make something else fit.

Me too. I think I asked you for more information about once. If you can give me specifics on the core, I can get my local radiator shop to convert it. I was going to do the PS swap but turned out to be beyond my abilities at the time. No equipment or place to do it.
Over on that "other forum" there was a discussion about using a 351VE and an Arduino based controller. Something to ponder. Vgt controller | Cummins Diesel Forum (cumminsforum.com)
I saw last night that Far From Stock has a 1st gen replacement intercooler from Misimoto for about $1500 for the I/C and the "mounting kit". Then they list that you will need to at least swap out some boots / clamps, if not the tubes as well, all of which which they can supply for extra $
Looks cool but a little too much $ for me.
