Lost control
I just changed out my bearings seals, and axle joints. I averaged out to be around 4.5 hours each side.
Cost me nothing but parts.... and cut up hands.
Go for it ! Take pix along the way so you can show your grand kids.

I envy you: but if you're capable of this kind of repair and have the facility and tools for the job then your time is quite valuable. That said, it must be very gratifying to be able to solve complex problems like this by yourself. Almost a form of therapy that provides counterpoint to your normal employment
In Kentucky, your time is worth at most whatever minimum wage happens to be at the time and twelve applicants are lined up for every job at that.
That being said, I do all of our work, improvements, repairs, and maintenance outside in the weather, on #5 limestone.
Three main reasons for me doing it all.
One is that nearly every time I have ever let any "mechanic" work on any of our vehicles, I have regretted it; note that I said "nearly every time"; there have been a few guys whose work was okay.
Two, around here, the mechanics are so covered up with work that they tend to keep pushing the harder, less profitable, jobs to the side and work on the easy-money stuff instead; no matter that you left your truck there last Tuesday and your turn has already been skipped over ten times, the hot blond chic that just pulled in and needs a new A/C belt gets priority.
And three, to survive financially around here, one must do everything for himself, or soon his property description is posted in the local papers to be sold at the court-house steps by the master-commissioner; very sad but also very true.

Wow... how the heck did that oval out like that? Universal caps banging around? I hope mine isn't like that.. I've already spent several thousand dollars in parts to redo my 91 W250.
Pewp.. I guess I need to start working double time. My FTE resonator came in last night... nice piece. Can't wait to install it. I have a list of things to check now though!
