Got my D250 last December for $4,500. Not a bad deal considering it only had 142k miles. Body is pretty decent, got some paint scrapes, minor dents & dings, and some previous minor body work, but it's got a somewhat recent coat of paint that looks good enough for the girls I dance with when it's cleaned up.

I've been searching for another 1st gen, but a W250 or W350, and the prices are downright outrageous... You can practically pick up a 94-97 4x4 for **** near the same price as a 1st gen!!!

I'm considering selling my truck later this summer to get a 2nd Gen 4x4. After some front end work, minor odds & ends, and a new paint job, I'll be asking around $6,500 for it, and I've already had offers for around $6k as it sits.

OK I wonder if I got f***ed. I just bought my 91 350 4X4 with a 10 ft flatbed and 160K, aux fuel tank(40 gallon) and power windows/locks, a/c, tach and spotlightsand new tires on alloy wheels for 8500.00 . We got it off EBAY from a dealer in TX, there isnt a bit of rust anywhere on it, still has most of the factory rust proofing on the undercarriage.
Kelley Blue Book listed it as being worth 8700.00
Most of the one s I looked at ( been looking for almost a year) have sold between $5000 and 10,000 depending on condition.

How bizarre!
I just sat down in my office and logged on and find someone here asking how much a 1st Gen is going for! Well, I just got offered $9500 for my D250 AT! Thats the 4th time in the last 2 months! I bought it 1 year ago for $7k. It was well worth it and its still worth $9500 now! I would of paid it last year! Actually, he was asking $10,500 and I flashed the cash and he fell for it.
Anyhow, out here in MOdesto, CA, you can expect to pay $7k + for a good D250 and at least $9k+ for a good W250. Otherwise, you'll most likely end up with someone else's crap or experiment. Mine was non molested, with a brand new pump. I still haven't even done any bombing yet! I know, I know...I'm just too stinkin' busy to have my truck out for even 1 day!
I don't want to sell my truck until January when I order a brand spankin' new one ton dually 4x4. Actually, I'll probably start bombing the crap out of my D250 then!

Well, I'm new to the Diesel World, so I did some homework on this one. The Fords and Dodge's hold their value really well, if they are well cared for. The Dodge's are very desirable and sought after. Chevy diesels are all over the board, due to a mediocre reliability reputation.
I really like the look of the Dodge, so targeted them as my first choice. I wanted a Southwest or California Truck with no rust, Extended cab, Diesel and 4x4. (Picky huh!) If you don't want Diesel you can find a lot of trucks for less $.
I scoped out Ebay, Autotrader.com, Local Newspapers and Local Pennysavers and swap sheets. I definately saw the best deals in the local rags. Don't hesitate, if it's a good truck it will be gone real fast! Several were sold by the time I called.
I found a 1993 W250 LE ext. cab model with the intercooled turbo diesel, 4x4, 4" lift Rancho 9000's with 141,000 miles and service records. Zero rust garaged and in beautiful condition inside and out!. The owner was retired and the truck showed "pride of ownership".I bought it after a quick walk around, crawl under and test ride. I paid $8000. His asking price. I knew the next person looking at the truck would buy it! I tried to shave a few hundred off, but he knew (and I knew) he was priced fairly, so I didn't push the issue.
When you go to buy, check out any other vehicles the seller may own and the house. Check the truck out really well if the place is a mess and the other cars/ trucks look like hell. This guys house, property and vehicle's all looked great! Having a trusted mechanic give the truck a thorough once over is a good idea too.

plainjane is on the money. You may be able to find a d250/350 for $5k, but be really careful. The one's I saw were ridden hard and/or had 200k miles plus. You'll spend the money you "saved" real soon.

So time to get off the Soapbox. GOOD LUCK in your search! Step up and buy the best truck you can afford. Keep it clean and you'll get your money back or more when you go to sell it! Buying a 1st generation Dodge is like money in the bank!

My dad is going to sell his 90 w250. He is the second owner (bought it in 91) and it just turned over 100,000 a month or so ago. Talk about a baby truck, PW, PDL, alummiun wheels, etc. etc.
It only has it's third set of tires, second set of front brakes (factory set lasted 85,000 miles!!), and has never had any problems other than fuel gauge.

I drive every once in a while (take off-turn the wheel and stomp it!!! burn baby burn!!) when needed to get thing for him. He doesn't hardly drive it his main truck is a 2001 crew cab 4x4 Duramax(WOW!!).

He thought about asking $8500.00 for the truck. It is a good truck

Bought my 2 trucks for 2k. Only one ran, but it ran strong. The second one will be runnin soon. I guess for 1k each truck it ain't too bad. About $750 and I'll have the second one runnin. It's just too bad the oil wasn't changed in either for at least 5 years. They both had a very rough life, but I saw Cummins and said "YEAH"

I have a 92 2x in good shape. It has 165000 on it. With a white fiberglass utility
box on it . I still have the original bed for it. The truck has no rust on it but it does
have some scraches and dings in a few places. The interar is in good shape.
I would like to sell it bed box and all for $5000. I'm planing on taking out the
motor and putting it in my 4x4 79 GMC. I don't meen to offend any one because
while there is nothing wrong with a Doge, I just like my old 79 more and I love
that diesel.

i am located in Sacramento CA. It's a 4x4 W250 and the guts of the truck are good, but the electrical, interior and body need some attention. Brand new tires.

also if anyone has anything or knows of anyone who has a truck for sale message me
I paid $4500 for my W250 (CTD/5spd/club) in 2011. Sure, the springs were sacked, fuel tank falling out, beaten and somewhat rusty, etc. Same year I sold my lifted '95 F350 (PSD/5spd/crew) for $8000. There was no shortage of $10k+ trucks at that time, and certainly no less now. You have be patient and look far and wide.

You may want to expand the search to 'parts trucks'. What one person deems only good for parts, or simply a cummins donor, may well be repairable by those who are more handy.
