Does it balance on the jackstands with or without the rear in it?

That looks like something I would do . . like doing an engine swap on a minivan in the street. ;-)

There is a place in Louisville that I often have reason to be that shares a rather large parking lot with an Autozone.

There are numerous big signs that say "no vehicle repairs on premises."

I have never been there but what there will be no less than three different cars, hoods up, jacks and blocks under, and transmissions or engines out and on the ground.

Big pools of antifreeze, oil, and transmission fluid everywhere.

There are a few places in America that are still FREE.

Nothing wrong with antifreeze on the ground. Keeps the local stray dog population in check.

I used to work in a wrecking yard and have steam cleaned lots of engines (yes insides too),trannys and many diffs it is not near as bad on parts as it looks if you get them cleaned up right away.

Thanks, I had two cops and a city official stop by.

Cop #1 wanted to make sure the truck was safe to work on (jack-stands), he approved.

Cop #2 stoped by to drop off some road flairs so "You don't get run over by a drunk". I ended up putting up reflective triangles. Then I went over to the ex's house to watch the movie Cars. When I came back 3 hours later 2 of the 3 reflectors had been run over (yeah, that would have sucked. Thank god Skye called me or I probably wouldn't be typing this).

City official said I was breaking city code (no duh). But the shocker was when he said I couldn't do it in my yard either, unless I had a garage . Still no fine.

Did anyone notice the street, yeah it started raining halfway though the swap.

The jack was doing a little work but nothing unsafe (I didn't want to cancel my vacation cause I was dead/hurt.

I can't stop laughing! The reflectors got run over! How about that axle sticking out into the street. What a crack-up.

Working on your truck is breaking code!?
I guess I wouldn't make it in the city.

Talk about breakin' code?! It took three months (takin' my good 'ol time) to finish stripping this one a couple years ago. Boy were they PO'd. They kept buggin' me about it and I kept tellin' 'em "it'll be done when it's done." Just a rebel, I guess:

What do you guys mean by breaking codes??

Is that some communist thing you got going in your neighborhood.

I thought we lived in America--Land of the Free.

Many fought and died so that we could do pretty much what we pleased, pretty much wherever we wanted to; or, have those brave souls wasted their lives in vane??

Most municipal codes and development convenants today have clear restrictions on what you can and cannot do and what you can and cannot have in the street or in the driveway in front of your house. Nobody likes having those restrictions put on them, but it does help keep the neighborhoods nice that would otherwise degrade into scarpyards full of broken down vehicles where fiends like me will strip a car in front of their house, oblivious to what anyone else may think about it.

it's really a majority rule rather than a completely free society. unfortunalty the majority aren't gearheads and wrench turners who can see the time and dedication it takes to do what your doing. i think its great. some communities would have loaded up the truck and all the parts and towed em off by now . man i love living in the woods

Codes exist because community's don't want noisy exotic birds, beef feedlots, gang-land graffiti murals, junk yards, slaughtered animal corpses or untreated ply-wood chicken coops in front yards.

If something's in a front yard for a couple days it shouldn't be a problem, but I wouldn't want to live next to a scrap heap.
