Appearantly, the way the brakes and signal lights are backfed through the switches, when your flasher unit goes bad, it can possibly take out your brake light fuse. I can find no other explanation for my brake fuse going out at the same time my flasher unit went bad.

All at once my signals started acting funny. Then while in town (late night) I got the brainstorm, I could try switching the two flasher units, and I then had signals but no 4-ways. So, a new fuse and a flasher unit and I'm back in business.
