Not much to go on here but if it knocks less under load and runs rough at idle it sounds like an injector with a bad tip. If you look at the exhaust while idling you might be able to detect puffing. Where one cylinder is not burning clean and sends out a smoke signal. Puff puff puff.

I had my injector pump rebuilt about three months ago and I kept hearing a small knock when I accelerated. In the end the problem was the pump timing. The mechanic who rebuilt the pump told me he advanced the timing on the pump when he put it back on. I backed it off a little over 1/8 inch (but not hardly 1/4) and it runs smooth as silk now. Hope this helps!

I might get the valves adjusted if it hasn't been done. Maybe some maintenance on the fule return valve.

did the knocking get worse aroud 2300 to 2500 rpms? that is when I can really hear it. any Ideas on the rough Idle/or missing when its cold. It also vibrates when I hear the knocking, does it most in 4th and 5th.

My truck did not miss when cold. No, it did not get worse at those RPMs. I could just hear a knock when I mashed the accelerator. Holding it steady it ran a little rougher than it does not but no knock.

Could be air in the lines. They will knock and run terrible with an air leak.

Mine had a small knock, than it became worse. A cam bearing whent out and broke a lubo off the cam shaft. I hope it's just a fuel knock.

air in the fuel lines. would that slowly get worse over time, and what about the rough idle when I start it? because after the truck warms up it smoothes out to a point. also haven't had any horse power loss. I will check my lines though.
