Knock I Think?
No, you would not be likely to hear a rod knock at idle.
Most likely it's just an injector related knock. You may have an injector or two that pop off early, causing a little knock. You could take it to a truck shop and have them listen and see what they think. It's very hard to diagnose a noise you can't hear.
An oil analysis would let you know how things are going inside the engine. It'll set your mind at ease to know what's going on.

TO me its pretty bad like I said some times I dont here it BUT most of the time I here it. When im at a stedy higher RPM I cant hear it. most guys tell me it sounds normal and theres one guy at a shop in town that told me it mite be an internal knock. But he only works on fuel systems so im not sure if he knows what hes talking about I just dont know
Do the guys that are telling you it sounds OK have experience with diesels? If so, keep driving it, and send an oil sample in to be analyzed. If the analysis comes back OK, then it's not an internal problem.

My truck began having what I thought was a knock. As I kept driving it, it got worse and worse. After about a coule of months, it started doing it even when I was idling. After close inspection I found that two of my injectors had backed off and was letting two of the cylinders lose compression and that created what I mistook for a knock. I tightented all the injectors this past weekend and after that I have not heard anything except the sweet purr of that Cummins! I don't know how many miles your truck has but mine has 259,000. Hope this helps. Might be worth considering before you spend a gob of money!
Could it possibly be Valves that need to be adjusted? When was the last time that was done? They recommend about ever 24,000 miles though it really wouldn't knock that loud, I don't think.
I think either injector or something simple. Rods in these trucks just don't go that much. They are known to go, but it takes it somewhat to get them to go.

first thin id do is check oil pressure or buy a gage its only 50$ and easy to install
2 my truck did same thing i had injectors pop tested put some new washers on them o\and voila
injectors arent hard to take out you can do it and it woul give you a good idea on that truck and take compression while your there it wont hurt to no if you got q on how to just ask i did all that 2 weeks ago
