Kickdown cable Question. less smoke

Well I got a new kickdown cable for my truck because it kept falling off. I didn't know but from the day I bought my truck off my dad the kickdown cable was off. I just thought the dodges shifted hard into gear, and i thought it was just the non lock up torque converter doing all the slipping until i put my DTT torque converter in and realized it was still doing it. Well since i got the new kickdown cable on...when i take out i see about 80 percent less smoke, but it runs so much better and it doesnt wind the engine out without putting the power to the wheels now. Would that be normal since the tranny isnt sitting there slipping when i mash on the pedal? Is the reason its not blowing as much smoke is because its not slipping?

I'd say yes to the lower RPM and better moving. Not sure on the less smoke. I guess it could, though it'd seem the increased load of the tighter convertor would actually cause MORE smoke. Maybe the turbo is actually being spun hard enough to spool faster, and thus, cleaning up the smoke?

Where did you find a kick-down cable for our trucks?

Brand/part number?

With no kick down cable attached, you get a stacked 1-2-3 shift, and it'll feel like the truck is sluggish, or slipping. Now that you have it attached and a better TC, you're seeing how it is supposed to act.

I just talked to my dad tonight. I guess he has had the kickdown cable around for a few years now, just never got around to putting it on when he owned it. A few years to him might be 10 haha. I'm not sure where he got it at when he bought it back who knows when. I thought he bought it because it was in a package with tags on it still. Sorry for getting you guys hopes up.

Part# 1-53009056. It's going to depend on the parts guy, some will help and some won't. Looks like mine was made in 06/04/07. If you can't get it from one dealer try another..

Hope this helps
Mike
