KDP dimensions ? anyone got an engine apart
I want to tab my KDP but was thinking of machining a tab on the mill.
I wonder if anyone has the dimensions between the center of the bolt hole you normally put the tab under and the center of the hole the dowel pin is in ?
Also the dimension from center of bolt hole to the edge of the step in the timing cover ?
Yes I know I can buy a stamped sheet metal tab or use a piece of coat hanger but hey I have a mill why not over engineer it :-)
Also the bolt you guys put the tab under is referred to as 10mm in all the threads I can find but I assume that is the size of the head, what is the diameter length and thread pitch of the actual threads ?
Or is it really a 10x1.0 or 10x1.5 ?
I want to pick up a longer bolt to compensate for the thickness of the tab I'm going to fab.
I'm hoping to pick up the seal, gasket, bolt and make the tab before tearing my DD apart when the weather is nicer or i'd measure it myself.
I would GREATLY appreciate if anyone would take a few minutes and measure an engine they might have apart this far.
O.K. flame away
Thank You in advance,
Brian

peen it
I opened the cover on mine and was planning on making a tab to cover the dowel pin, but it is not really necessary.
I just put a punch around where the dowel would fall out from and hit it lightly with a hammer. This caused that part to flare a little, which will make it so that the dowel pin cannot fall out of it's hole.
Best of all, you do not have to buy any parts.

The actual bolt size is an 8x1.25mm. Which is the same size as the bolt that holds your factory lift pump to the block. And the LP bolt is ~5-10mm longer than the bolt that goes next to the KDP. So if you've done a piston LP you should have a couple of these bolts laying around to use. I did.
