Buy online, even with shipping it is way cheaper. Keep an eye out for a WIX dealer (they make NAPA filters) usually this time of year they have a 10% off deal.

I would only consider the stock filter setup or a BHAF. K&N? no! for all the above plus a lot of other reasons but no need to bash.

Ive been doing quite a bit of R&D work on the Dodge lately. Ive been pretty much staring at my turbo and intake parts.......Ive noticed that all of them are FILTHY with oil and dirt.........Ive been running a K&N AND an AFE for about 3 years.

In other words I cant wait to get a BHAF on there.........

hrmm..
yeah, my S&B doesnt seem to be so popular.. it's oiled like a K&N.

they have very specific directions included to prevent over oiling.
i've had mine for @3yrs now with no issues though. nor any kind of oil or residue on the compressor side.

i know, because i played around with the silencer ring mod for a bit. (it's back in now)

I am not quite sure how K&N got such a bad rap and I am not out to change anybodys mind but I have had one on the truck for the last 30,000 mi. and I dont find any oil on the turbo blades or dust in the intake tube (and I live on a gravel road). I ran one on my chevy tahoe from day one and it currently has 250,000 miles on it and runs like a top. But, just my two cents. Plus the K&N will give you a much better turbo sound than a bhaf.

I have just put a k&n on my truck and everything has picked up so far, mileage power sound all of it. and that was going from a brand new stock air filter. I have run k&n's on all of my gassers and the difference has always been outstanding... course living at altitude (denver, co) anything to increase airflow is a plus. next will be getting rid of that awful corregated tubing

from mysteryman:
"The high flow air filter elements such as a K&N not only allow the maximum amount of air to flow in they also allow the maximum amount of DIRT to flow into your engine as well.... Oil sample test reports show this to be true across the board! High levels of Silica in the test reports is the first sign that there is a problem with the air filtration system. Silica is what kills engines! This is a real problem in the south western states where the silica levels in the air are already high....Don't believe what the filter makers tell you with their test reports..They want to sell you filters...Believe what the oil test reports say that YOU send in ! The best thing to do to a first gen air cleaner system is leave it alone...Just keep clean filters in it that belong in it...
The 93 filter box had the best flow of all of first gen trucks. perhaps change to a 93 box...If you really need greater flow than that just get a filter assembly off of a Freightliner or a Peterbilt and bolt it to the outside of your fender like the big rigs do...It might look goofy and take out a few pedestrians but you will have plenty of flow and real clean oil....LOL "

I think the point is this. K&N users: SHOW US YOUR OIL SAMPLES!!!!!!!!

I just had blackstone do a sample a few months ago, I don't have time this moment to figure how to post it, tonight ill try. My results were very good. When we put the kn on in like 02 when the truck was bone stock it made a very noticeable difference. The intake had a small amount of dust when i built my new 4" intake, but its a 20 year old truck and i guarantee i was the first guy to clean it out. What i did notice though was my crossover pipe, holy crap, it looked like a vacuum cleaner bag, friggin filthy. Thats where RELIGIOUS 3 k oil changes help. I still ordered a custom outerwears for piece of mind. Again, tonight i ll try and post the sample.

I've had both, and I like the BHAF. With the K&N (oiled from the factory), I would find dust inside of my intake tube. This is where I bought my BHAF, it was much cheaper than NAPA. I think NAPA wants about $70, if I remember correctly.

I just priced the NAPA BHAF, I have an account there and my price is $82.00 ($150.00 list) so at $42.00, that website is a pretty good deal!

I've been running K&N filters in everthing i own for years, Motorcylces, cars, trucks etc...In over 23 years of driving i've never had an engine failure for any reason. And i used to beat the living crap out of all my vehicles. Just my 2 cents. Change the Oil regularly...
