Just Pulling A Little Load Of Hay

Just thought I would share a pic of the old truck getting a workout last week. I was hauling this for a neighbor who wrecked his Dodge CTD this winter on ice. The hay was hanging off about 2 ft. on both sides. There are 7, 2200lb round bales on the gooseneck. I figure combined weight I was at about 27,500lbs. 8) The old truck handles it pretty well, just slow on the takeoffs. Bill

No really, I pull a lot and quite often it is heavy loads like this. I cannot stress enough to people who tow trailers, to make sure you have excellent operating trailer brakes and your tow vehicle has good working brakes also. You can never stop a load like this with your vehicle safely and in any reasonable amount of distance. The trailer brakes are large and are built to handle these kinds of loads. Sorry if this sounds like a lecture, but I always try to keep saftey in people minds when towing. There are enough nuts on the road as it is, let a lone another with a rig that will run you down because of stupidy or lack of knowledge. Bill

Amen on the safety. The worst feeling of all is when I've gotten in a situation where I can't stop when I need to.

These old trucks love loads like that. Thanks for sharing the pic.

I show that to karen tomorrow, she'll let me get my injectors!

Anything for her horses. I plan on putting on a goose neck hitch soon. She had six small round bales loaded on the flat bed herself. I told her that would be a drop in the bucket. Saw an early 2nd gen towing a load of about 14 big bales awhile back. She asked if he had a Cummins.

Re:Just Pulling A Little Load Of Hay

Looks good Farmall. Up until last year, I would haul 14 5x5 bales on a 30 foot tandem gooseneck durning hay season. Truck did real well with that kind of weight behind it. Wish I could have pulled with the injectors I have in now. But, the Mack Superliner has taken its place moving hay.

Re:Just Pulling A Little Load Of Hay

We do about 4-600 round bales a year for some of the people around here and for our 45 cows and 5 horses. Hauling loads like that is a normal site. Trailer brakes? when did they invent such a thing?
DM01
