I hauled 2.1 cords heavy wood 100 miles yesterday and my engine didn't even work hard at all, but it was too much for the bead!

I was wondering what the second picture was of when I saw it on the main forum picture previews this morning. That stinks, hopefully you can pull it back in and weld/grind the seam and hope it looks decent.
Bummer. If it makes you feel any better I think thats a weak area on the bed anyhow, mine has a small stress crack in the same area, altho I don`t know how hard my truck was worked before I got it.
My '90 W-350 is cracked the same in the same area plus several others. I've seen few of these later Dodge trucks that aren't splitting the seams! I think we're talking low bidder steel or it's just too thin to do the job.

I second Forrest on the flat bed
On my 93, the passenger side of the bed in the front towards the cab, is starting to stress fracture. I will probably tig weld it up, but am thinking about going the flatbed route.

Me too. We noticed the crack a mile out of Corona NM (middle of nowhere) and I almost projectile booted all over the dash!
You might have noticed the pen mark I put below the crack to tell me when it was time to bail! Every time we listed to starboard the crack would yaw open like one of those rubber coin purses. It took until half way home before I realized it wasn't going to burst open like a water balloon and I quit pinching fabric

I had a 93 that the PO hauled a camper with. He used the fron tie downs that went through the front of the bed not a bar under the frame. Split the bed on both sides right at the front. I had them welded up, sanded and repainted, looked like new but... $$$$
