It's Finally Running

D350 got it running after over 1 1/2 years. THD Max fuel rebuild 3200rpm spring.

Didn't know my woodruff key fell out. Timing changed retarded 3-4 teeth. No start. Did the timing check with a dial indicator IP kit. Pulled the gear. Used the next step above red Loctite to hold the pin.

Bled the injectois. It fires instantly. Had to advance towards the head for the right number on the dial.

If you try to blip the throttle it dies. Fuel screw is all the way in where THD had it. Sounds like it's idling high. Have the timing case cover is off until this is fixed.

Throttle levervis on the second mark.

The more the fuel screw is cranked in the higher the idle gets.
Poncho was idling a little low this spring for my tastes , so I turned the fuel screw in a partial turn, rather than mess with the idle screw.

Glad to hear you truck is running again.

I would be a little concerned as the WHERE the woodruff key was lost.
I personally like to rotate the motor over till the keyway is facing upwards when installing the pump. This makes it less likely that the key falls out. It is also a little easier to keep an eye on it.

You could stake the VE shaft next to the key to help keep it from falling out. It's what I did. Works like a champ.

Yes. I did move it to #3, and then #4. No difference. So back to #2.

It landed on a timing case rib behind the gear. I feel lucky about that.

Using this $40 tool we determined the timing was retarded. Hence no fire/ignition. No instruction book on how to set the parts together. Took a while to figure it out.

Setting the gears like the the FSM depicts were shy of the spec. If it was 1.5 or .15 we only got 1.25 or .125. The mark on the timing case, and the IP were lined up. We tilted the IP towards the head some to get the right numbers. (Slop in the gears?) Plan is to advance the gear 1 tooth then reaching the factory lift again. Then rechecking it with the timing marks on the IP, and timing case lined up.I think that is the way to do it.

IF YOU KNOW HOW TO ADVANCE THE GEAR I WOULD LOVE TO LEARN FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE.

Some cosmetic stuff, and some functional stuff. The air horn is a $30 Ebay piece for a '94. It fits with plenty of clearance. Has 2 ports on the back side. Boost gauge will be going there.

Ebay stainless heater lines.

Last guy that adjusted the valves had almost all the exhaust set at .010. The intakes I couldn't get a feeler gauge in there. #4 exhaust was super duper loose more than .038. I was so sloppy I couldn't measure it.

I have ordered a "Cat 2" 46RH https://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/s...-transmission/ Converter and their billet flex plate. The Cat 2 is rated to 500hp. They do 450, 500, 600, and 700hp rated 46RH's. Allegedly 2-3 weeks to build one, and the converter.

Look at the difference in the air horn sizes.

Looks good under there bud! I think you'll be happy with the Suncoast trans, my Cat2 47 from them works fantastic and catches rubber on the 1-2 shift.

Good to see it up and running again. With how far south you are there might even be time to enjoy it on the road before winter locks in.
I know up here 1st gen driving season is long over. I have had several inches of snow in my yard now for 2 weeks.

I have heard good things about Suncoast autos.

I am 40 miles West of Nashville. They were forecasting a wintery mix for Black Friday. Not now. When snow, ice etc is predicted it will stay at home.
I had fun today. I took it for a pleasure ride. I did about 16mi before the sunset. 45mph on a 4 lane lots of traffic. I have new pads and rebuilt calipers up front. Put in my new Dorman master cylinder in. Bled all the crud out front to back. I have really good brakes now. No idea what the shoes look like in the back. I am going to upgrade to bigger wheel cylinders. Probably eliminate, or rebuild the ABS doodad in the back.

Anyways I got on I-65. Heavy slow traffic. I got a chance to lean into it ran it up to 67-73mph. No hesitation at all. Did I mention the overdrive isn't working? (No juice going to the ECM) GPS on the phone says the speedo is reading 3mph slow. I am running taller tires than stock. I bought them in 2023 didn't really drive it much. They were bumping pretty good. Hopefully will smooth out.

Impressive acceleration. Still have the stock H1C and injectors. When I turned around to head back to Antioch I was talking to my buddy. Then realized I had forgot to turn on the FUEL PUMP! All that fun and the pump was turned off..................LOL!

Anyways I have zero anti-freeze in it right now. I am running straight tap water and lots of tri-sodium phosphate to clean out the calcium in the cooling system. Looks like I can run it for awhile. If it threatens to get too cold I can plug in the block heater? Heater blower isn't working. I am going to drill the heater box and put in the marine deck plate for the clean out.
