Isspro pyrometer jumps around

The pointer in my Isspro pyro. jumps around when I start up in the morning. Usually it will peg all the way, then I'll blip the throttle and it'll go to zero and sometimes do some more girations before acting normal. This can't be too healthy for the gauge. Got any clues what's up?

Something you could do to test the thermocouple is to pull it and hold a heatgun up at the tip and watch what it does. I have seen new T'couples be bad and can give freaky readings like you're getting.
I have an autometer guage in my truck and it does not rely on electrical power to work. If yours does, that may be a cause too.

That sort of behaviour sounds like an electrical problem. Check the thermocouple lead ends/connections and also the gauge connections both power and in back of the gauge.

Does this seem to get any worse when you turn on electrical accesories, like the radio, lights, or hitting the horn? If it does, then you most likely have a bad ground. It was the problem i was having, and you symptoms sound similar.

It's kinda hard to watch the voltmeter and pyro. at the same time, ones at far left the other is top/center of dash over the "info center". I haven't got Marty Feldman eyes!
I guess I can try keying in on the click/thunk of the grids cycling while watching the pyro.
As far as it being a bad thermocouple, after a few seconds of jumping around it works properly until the next morning.
I can check the connections, but what am I looking for since it works normally 99.9% of the time?
I haven't tried accessories while it's doing it, although sometimes the radio is on.
The one thing I have noticed is that using the throttle when it happens seems to affect it. It's a wierd one

Thanks, Chris
