intro and question: surging and even stalling

hello my name is john and i recently acquired a first gen dually - love it!
what a comparison to the intertrashionals!

during warmup if you actuate the throttle and let off it might die if it doesnt it surges. once a lil warmer it will surge 4,5 ,6 times after letting off the throttle and then will normalize. once fully warmed up while driving suddenly lettting off the acellerator suddenly it will die. sounds like air is entering the fuel system, but with mostly metal lines what are common entrance points on these engines as they age?

motor appears to be bone stock except for K&N

thank you for any help!

I agree...K&N or any oil soaked fabric filters are junk..IMO They let in far too much particulate matter. Just look at what the big rigs run... big paper element filters.

Anyway as for the surging and stumbling. It could be air. Generally the line from the tank to the lift pump, and corresponding fittings, seem to be the biggest culprits. You can have a friend charge you tank with about 10lbs air and then you can climb around and look for leaks. I've never done this but those who have say the leaks show themselves quite readily.

Get a FSM (factory service manual). The print version is about $100 or the CD version is $35. It's the best $100 bucks i have spent on my truck. More wiring schematics than you will ever need

Need more information about your truck. There are variations between years and how they are equipped that will help diagnostics.
And welcome on board.
Next to gauges, a factory service manual is the best money you will ever spend.
