Question Intercooler Difference

I know that this is a topic that has been discussed many times, but I searched and could not find the answer after about an hour of searching. Banks had an intercooler for non I/C and I/C trucks this I know, but will a intercooler for a non I/C truck work on my 92 without any modifications? I have always wondered this.

Thanks

Here is my banks kit.

It is smaller than the factory i/c's I don't think it would flow as good.
I took mine out and put in a Power stroke one.

The actual "cubic inches" of air flow different between the P/S and the 2nt gen is about 1 cubic inch........in other words, THEY ARE EQUAL!

The fitting of the intercooler will take less fab work if you go by this guide.

INTERERCOOLED= P/S

NON INTERCOOLED = 2nt Gen

The radiator support, supports, are in different place between the two and the intercooler outlets width are different also. with the 2nt gen outlet being the wider of the two.

Either one should out flow the banks systems. as they are larger.

Hmmmmm, well, that depends, if yours in a early 91(non intercooled) or late 91(intercooled)

Early = 2nt gen

Late = P/S

Big? ugly? Grill? I like it

One more thing, the inlet/outlet are the same for a Banks (non intercooled) cooler as it is for 2nt gen intercooler. so if you had a bank non intercooled installed......the holes are were they should be........but they need to be enlarged from the 3" that was originally cut.

I can only Assume that the P/S inlet/outlet are the same as the Banks (Intercooled) intercooler, inlet/outlets.......as well, the factory intercooler should be......?

i hate that stupid chrome grill. i tried to steal my dads 87 grill and slap her on. but i need to exchange the whole front support and such. and its a early non intercooled. what i might do is. because my red truck is faded pink. is repaint the whole truck charcoal grey or black. and paint the grill black.

So my question is will it fit? I guess I can assume that it will based on what you just said correct? I was not sure if the Banks intercoolers for the non I/C and the I/C were the same, are they? Or are the inlet/outlets in different locations? Clear as mud right

NO, the non intercooled(89-91.0),....Banks intercooler is wider(inlet to outlet) then the Banks Intercooler for the intercooled trucks(91.5-93)

does that clear up the muddy water?

Flash.

Will a 6.0L P/S intercooler work, or does it have to be the 7.3L set up? only about 100-150 on ebay with boots and piping to help with set up.

A 6 liter unit is too tall for the space available.
