Just a note: Whatever value you set the pot to will result in a range of rpm where the trans will shift into OD. Mine is set where slight acceleration will shift at 35mph, but if I put my foot down it shifts at 55-60mph.

OK, I went out earlier today and got everythign to do this, including a soldering iron, however, after a few dozen practise attempts at using it, i cant get my solder to hold the wire onto the POT....[( never used one before ) whats the trick ?????
Edit: I bought one of the "cold-heat" soldering irons.. jsut read the reveiws and it seems I have wasted my money, everyone of the "geek" sites are panning them as too difficult to get a good joint with and such...
Radio Shack had everything I needed except the 3-4 strand sheilded cable, which I got at NAPA for $.40 per foot..
Will installing the POT affect the cruise control BTW??

All you are doing by changing the TPS to a Pot is affecting the shift points. The TPS only controls the transmission. On newer trucks where they are drive by wire, it will affect your cruise. You have to remember that we are drive by cable.

Ok, two days now of running with the POT, installed EXACTLY as Tucker did it, and I LOVE IT!!!
With the "low" stop of the POT at about 12 O'clock, 2 o'clock is engaging at 35( for city cruising), 3 o'clock is engaging around 47( towing)...
Looks like my MPG is definitly up, tho I havent calculated it yet...
I would absolutley recommend this mod as a "must -do"
THANKS FOR THE HELP TUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

awesome write up, but im a little confused, you loose your passing gear and by that do u mean a downshift at full pedal, and is it a big deal? usually when i tow i turn o/d off till about 45 50 then i roll on in o/d, will this be hard to get used 2? and will it help me get better milegae?
