Installed HE351CW Turbo = No Boost

Need help guys! I put on the '04.5-07 HE351CW turbo on the old Power Wagon and now I get only about 3-4 pounds of boost. The impeller turns freely, have a stiff spring holding the waste gate closed, all the intake plumbing is in place.

I'm stumped as to why it won't spool up and make some boost? Please advise.

Good day, Mike Mc. From my experience with the HE351CW, I don't recognize that nipple fitting off the bottom of the solenoid port on the intake housing. Maybe that is a boost leak?

Good luck with your T/S. Nice 351 by the way. I'm looking for one myself.

I got the nipple on the intake plugged. There's a sheet metal screw in it with a dap of red silicone. Maybe the spring is allowing the waist gate to open up.

I'm an idiot My dumb *** had the waist gate all the way open. Unhooked the spring, flipped it over, hooked the spring back up. Now it makes about 28 pounds which is about 6 pounds more boost than before. Happy Happy

Day late and a dollar short. Your statement carries no weight saying it afterwards. Although I wish you said it earlier so I didn't pull the turbo off to double check it.

mk. ya buddy sure glad it was a simple dumb mistake...... boy I make a lot of them too.

Went out driving around tonight. Not sure how much more power it has but its has a CRAZY amount of whistle and I love it Every little fluctuation of the throttle I can hear in the turbo. Maybe the big air cleaner allows more whistle to escape?

You need a stiffer spring now. Those turbos are good most of the way up to 40 lbs. (Over that and it just pumps more hot air)

I'm hauling heavy with it right now. Truck 9k. Trailer 12k. Pull trailer 3k. When I'm pulling hard it's getting about 29lbs of boost. If I put on a stiffer spring what's the max boost for a '93 5.9?

That looks like a really neat set up. Love the big yellow rig!

Now, how are you feeding the engine cold air? That looks like a hot, under hood air intake.

What is your timing set at? If close to stock, I would be comfortable at 40 if you torque the head bolts.
