Installed 92 Radiator on 90 with different Belt.

I installed a 92 Radiator, Fan, Thermostat housing on a 1990 while still using the 90 a/c compressor. The 90 compressor has a larger pulley than the 92 compressor and according to Mark Nixon the 92 compressor bracket puts the pulley in a different position. The 92 belt, Dayco 5080830 is to short with 83.07"
I found a Dayco 5080840 on Ebay for $18.95 with 84.06".
Installed the belt, but had to remove one bolt on the alternator for ease of installation( Mark Nixon told me doing this).
If I had to do it again I would have used a Dayco 5080850 with 85.00".

I assume you kept the non i/c fan hub bracket? If so, what'd you do about a fan shroud?

I appreciate the information on this different belt length.

Back when I was doing the conversion on the hauler, I had the exact same components, but I was working with AutoZone about 2 years ago and the local place didn't have nearly the selection that seems to be available now.

I wasn't terribly set on running the A/C, so I went with a Non-Air belt and had no issues with it at all.

Jim, The intercooled fan hub was most of what caused the issue in the first place.

Mark,
Dayco had a listing of 8 rib belts from 30" to 149".
Thanks for your help on this.

Cool. Just had to ask for clarification 'cause you had only mentioned the "fan" and nothing about a hub bracket. Good to hear you made it work though!

The 5080830 for instance should decode third digit "8" for 8 rib, 5,6 and 7 digit "830" for 83.0".

A 5080800 would be 8 rib 80" and a 5080885 would be an 8 rib 88.5" belt etc.

That is correct according to the Dayco chart that I looked at.
According to a Goodyear chart 4080839 is 84",4080855 is 85.5", and 4080893 is 89.25".

If one were to take a non i/c motor and removed the damper and replaced it with a innercooled damper. Without ac does anyone know what belt I would need? I wasnt aware that the non i/c damper was smaller. Thank for any help. In case people are wondering I am swapping dampers because I am adding the crank sensor to run a 92 harness. Thanks

I've got an i/c parts truck I'm wanting to do a similar swap with. Basically the front end conversion with the i/c core support, radiator, thermostat housing and grill. To sum it all up, it sounds like all I'd need to make the radiator, fan and shroud work on my '90 is the i/c fan hub bracket and the Dayco 5080850 - 85" belt? Also, do the fan pulleys differ in size from non i/c to i/c?

freight train, the damper may be smaller, but the PULLEY on the damper is the same diameter, I/C or Non-Iced.

The only pulley that is a different diameter on the 1st gens is the Non-Iced A/C compressor pulley, which is slightly larger compared to the I/Ced one.

For the record, I didn't have a Dayco line available to me when I couldn't find the belt I "needed".
With Dayco's popularity in recent years, I'm surprised I didn't think to look into their applications.

If you compress tensioner and use a seamstress tape measure. Then, plug the length into the belt code.

Mark you are the man!!! I read this post and started thinking that there might be a wrench in the fan per say. So the belts are the same. Thank you

P.S. Sorry for jumping in the thread. I didnt mean to.
