Inner Wheel Bearing Seal

Can someone tell me if the SEAL is suppose to be pressed In untill it HOLDS the Bearing in place in it Race..... or does it just go untill its Flush with the hub, which allows the bearing to move around quite a bit...it looks like im suppose the press it in far enough so that it holds the bearing in its race..... do you grease the outter bearing?...This is on a Dana 70 Rear..THANKS

Just press the seal in flush , the bearing will be loose , but when you install it on the truck and tighten that big nut , the bearing will become tight , if the seal was pressed in too far , it wouldn't run on the shoulder it was meant to , and probably wouldn't seal.

A little grease on the bearing won't hurt anything , but some oil should work it's way out there , so drive it a little while and check the diff fluid , i assume that's how it gets out there.

I did DRIVE a few miles....I started hearing a metal to metal sound.. .. came home and pulled the drum off...METAL shaving's all over the outter bearing ...what the hell happened??..Do you think I should replace ALL the bearing's again or just Drain the oil and replace the outer with the shaving's on it...There is NO sign of Heat.. BUT when I got back from the short drive.. the hub was pretty darn hot....IDEA's please...THANKS

I'd replace the outer bearing. Did you pack it with grease? It takes a while for gear lube to work its way out there. Also, did you follow the setup procedure in the FAQ? If you had too much preload all the grease in the world won't save it.

Make sure you take a look at the inner bearing to see if it was damaged as well. That's gonna cost you another seal.
