Injector question

What would a custom injector cost?? ,like a 6x16 or 6x12 or something? like i dont get it.

you take your stock injectors out and send them out to a place like Scheid OR EDM?. Is that a diesel performance place?

and tell them first gen spray angle and they cut the tips to whatever size holes you want? 6x.012 or 6x.014 or 6x.016 etc. etc. ......... what would it cost? am i right about all this?

A lot of places don't like to use old injector tips, and may make you buy new ones. EDMing is a process to increase the size of the injector hole. A set of 6X.012 EDM injectors are going to cost a lot more than a set of 6X.012 extrude honed injectors. Sheid EDM's and I believe Dynomite Diesel extrude hones.

EDM is a machining process, it works well for drilling very small holes.

Sending cores makes it easier, that way they don't have to scare up a suitable set. They machine new tips and set up the injectors. Old tips are prone to failure. Figure on spending $700 minimum.

if you would get a 6x.016 from say NewEra it would be in the 500 range, that would be a custom injector for them. Mine were in the 400's (low) and are 5x.014 (435's).

as far as what they do is they pop test and flow test the injectors for the particular application. It is not that there is alot of work involved (labor intensive) its that the equipment to do such precise work that is very expensive.

EDM is electrical discharge machining not a shop or place. if you search Google there is a lot of info about it.

Ok i got it now,

EDM is a fancy high dollar process

and extrude honing is like you basic "making the holes bigger"

6x.014 EDM injectors are different from 6x.014 "extrude honed injectors" becuase there both just different methods of cutting them.

Do EDM injectors make more power then "extrude honed" or is it just a difference in how clean they run?

Supposedly, EDM injectors are more efficient, because the process is more precise than extrude honing. I really don't think it would make that much of a difference though.

EDM's run cleaner. Extrude honing tends to "funnel" the holes, EDM leaves the edges sharp. The sharp edges make a better atomized fuel cloud so it burns cleaner.

Think of extrude honed injectors as really worn out stock injectors.
