Info and progress on the 93 blackfordd

Okay guys, you have been so helpful and motivating so far. I found the problem with the boost guage and it just took a $4.99 brass clamp to fix as I had some tubing. When I fixed the "boost" gauge the tach started working perfectly. I see no reason for that but sometimes you have to just take what is given and I'll take it. I'm sure Karma will even it up soon. I haven't driven the truck bu two miles since the fix but I gunned it down one street and the boost hit 16. I replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the K&N air filter. I did take the truck to a mechanic today to have the valves adjusted and a second set of eyes check the truck over. As I said earlier it seems like I am only getting about 10 mpg. Well, after picking the truck up today it was about half full so I filled it up so I could set the trip to "0" and check my mileage now. Last time I checked my truck had a 30 gal tank. The truck only took 8 gallons to fill it up. Seems like if I followed the gas gauge it should have taken 15 gal to top her off. I might have found my problem wiht mileage.

I am going to put on the 3200 spring and a Dennyt fuel pin next. All the guys could say at the shop was, "your 93 is cleaner than some of the new trucks that come into the shop". Thanks Dad!!

I just want to take a second to thank you guys for helping me so quickly and prodding me to just dive in and do what I can instead of paying for someone to do it. Thanks to Wannad, Crossy's boy, 12valve, bearkiller, Oilcan64 and all of the others that took a moment out to give a hoot about a news diesel brethren. My Dad and I appreciate it!!

David Blackford

Already memorized the video wannabe Hollywood camera guy and I will be on it soon. Rather install the DennyT while I am in there than twist it and do it again.

I will add this about "tweaking" the engine/pump :

All the time, I read about someone with a two-page list of modifications they have done to their engine/pump all at one time.

Doing things in such manner, there is no way to determine what actually helped and what hindered.

Although much slower and less "convenient", I am a firm believer in making one change at a time; it's the only way to know what is really going on.

I can vouch for that. I can quite honestly say I'm still tweaking my pump and have been for the last year. Little changes here and there, one adjustment at a time... Right now I have it so I still make 32 psi, but, I can stand on it at 40 in 5th and it just leaves a trace of smoke, and still has the same power it did when it blacked out the sky.
Once I get an exhaust on it, I'm probably going to have to play with everything again.... LOL

good to hear your making progress - my fuel milage was messed up to, i was doing my conversion from km to m wrong (bc my speedo is in kilometers) but i got roughly 20 mpg - boy was I happy! but my truck is 8'bed reg. cab and 5 speed 4x4 - with an automatic im guessing you should get like 18 mpg (i think) but good luck

i want to do the denny t and 3200 spring also!
