Smile Info for medium duty trans install: continuation from my other thread.

Alright,I am going to try to assemble all the information I found yesterday and today. First of all, I would like to say if this isn't your deal, please just read and keep negative comments to yourself. This is for people who want to be able to do this IF they want to. The information isn't speculation. Most of what I found has already been done. The sites I found with info concerning this subject have positive references to this site so I want to return the favor and direct yall to their sites due to the wealth of info there. I found that perservering just a little bit I was able to push through to everything you need to do the job. I will first share what I found using the phone and then post links to sites that document the project quite well. The first transmission I came across that sounded like what I want to use is a Spicer ESO66-7b. It is a 7 -speed sychrnized transmission with a 5.63:1 low gear ratio and a 0.73:1 overdrive. It is all cast iron and wieghs 454lbs. Oh, and get this its available with an 1 3/4" input shaft. Brnd new was $3922.00. I sawsome on ebay for about $2300 plus shipping and cores on some and not on others. But I think used is going to be the best deal. On a cummins 6bt, all you have to do is get a medium truck flywheel hsg(SAE #2 for a b-series cummins), flywheel from the same application, a starter that goes with them both, There are a variety of clutches that will work in this situation from pull type to push types and one of the sites I'm going to list has all the part #s. If you have a sizable truck salvage yard in your town, they inventory this stuff so it shouldn't be hard to find. The two installs I saw the guys fabed their own crossmembers for the transmissions and viola! You got what you need to do the deal. I realize this seems very simple in text and I am sure I am leaving out alot of details but the links are very comprehensive and I feel you will find just about everything you need to get the job done. The site in New Mexico the guy used a fuller 6-speed transmission for those of you who like Eaton transmissions. I have to give thanks to C.C. ring and pinion in Corpus Christi, Tx for pointing me in the right direction and taking the time to show me what he had in stock and tell me what was going to have to be done. The guy that owns it used to be a driver for the monster truck, I think it was "Bear Foot" Larry Cook. I also need to thank Kelton Pinkerton from Keltons Truck parts for getting the spicer info for me for the spicer transmission, also in Corpus Christi,Tx. I hope this helps someone besides me. I can also get phone numbers for Keltons or C.C. Ring & Pinion if you can't find what you need for sale. I am going to attempt to put the links down here now. Sorry this was so long, but Rome wasn't built in a day, or just a few sentences, you get the idea. Take care, Joseph

I forgot to mention that Larry Cook has a 2000 dodge with a p-pumped 24 valve that he did himself. Is that cool or what?

So far, I have only had time to look at the first link, the one about putting the 8406 in place of the NV5600.

There is some real useful information there.

I appreciate you taking the time and effort to find all of this information.

Someday, when I have a concrete floor, hoist, and roof, my intentions are to put a deep-reduction 9-over Fuller behind the Cummins in my Ford; I have always had a liking for good old no-nonsense 9-speeds; on the other hand, I absolutely abhor a ten-speed; there is just no comparison.

Again, thanks for the info.

Thank You for posting this, I just rebuild My getrag but I like the possibility to put a bullet proof tranny instead if it ever fails.

Thanks guys, I really look forward to being able to do this myself too when I get my 1st gen. I hope someone can put this info to use. At least no one will be stuck with no options when they get tired of throwing good money after bad in their unreliable gear boxes. I wonder if this is sticky worthy? If not, maybe after someone here does it.

Mission Accomplished

Gary, aka pocketchange, has completed his install of a Fuller FSO-6406 behind his long wheel base Dodge that he use OTR as a "hot shot". He had been through several NV5600 transmissions.

He recommends re-installing the resonator bracket between the exhaust pipe and the transmission---tooooo noisy without it.

He also recommentds that the boot around the transmission shifter be installed as quickly as possibble. It's not so much the road noise as those Southern 8 legged visitors that just come into the cab uninvited.

Otherwise, he's in love all over again.

come see what we're doing at http://www.sanco-bg.com/Conversion_NV5600.htm

Two of them work. (DTR & 4BTswaps).

Keep in mind, this thread is over two years old.
