I'm a straight-pipe nay-sayer now

Well I got freakin' tired of my straight pipe after 3 months now (I like to HEAR my music/cell phone/passenger in the cabin) and decided to upgrade my exhaust. Went to my buddy at Mac Industrial Exhaust here and whipped me up a 4" made-in-house silencer and 4" tailpipe that exits in front of my rear right tire. The sound is freakin' amazing to say the least! Really low rumble and resonance and low RPM's but get on the throttle and WOW!I don't know why I didn't do it sooner! If anyone's looking for a premium-made muffler I would highly suggest looking these guys up. I don't know much about diesel mufflers and the quality of stuff from MBRP, Donaldson, etc. but this thing was top-shelf quality! They call it a "mini-mac" silencer. It's a straight-through design like a glass-pack on 'roids and although it's a bigger diameter the body's only 18" long (plus the inlet/outlet) and all I did was add a 90 degree bend (mandrel bent) in 4" just like my old 3" straight pipe. I had it bolted up within 45 minutes and it was one of the best decisions I ever made for my old girl. Now all I need is a real downpipe!

Cheers
-Mike

*EDIT*
If anyone's wondering what to do the tailpipe bend at I did it at 14" x 30" on centre.

I am don't know what I want on my project 93. On my 89 I have the stans with the donaldson muff. I have had it straight piped before and I also had a 89 with a staight piped stack. Some times its nice to be quiet and some times its nice to be heard. I love to hear my old 89 go by the house with the straight stack still in place. The new owner didn't take it off. Im thinking dual stacks straight piped. I KNOW IM A RED NECK. can't help it.

I like the sound that my Magnaflow 4" straight through makes. Not too loud, but you know it's there.

+1... Short one tho.
Straight piped stacks were a little brutal droning at 2000+ rpm with the windows down

Any straight through muffler will muffle well without restriction. The longer they are, the more they muffle. I used a short one because thats all the room I had to play with. Didnt make it much quieter wot, but it pulled the nasty sound out of it while cruising and part throttle, and it no longer sounds like its cutting air in half at the top end of the gear on boost, and no more peeoush on the shift.. Oh well, i can live with it.

My cd player doesn't work ( for 2 years now...lol) so the straight pipe music is all I hear. 4" exiting in front of the right rear wheel. The sound of my 1st gen is the reason my '07 only has 8K miles on it.....

I just upgraded my stereo speakers so I could hear it over the straight pipe, mine also exits behind the passenger rear tire.

My stacks arent bad if I keep the windows up, or drive in town. Get out on the highway, and the windows go up and the AC comes on. I had a straight 4" pipe in my D350, and it was too loud for my liking. I found one cheap that someone had bought a complete system and didnt want the muffler.

Any one ever run a glasspack style(cherry bomb) straight thru style? Can it be done and if so what does it sound like? I too, am tired of the straight pipe, it's hard to drive quietly when I need to without really lugging the power train. Love the way it sounds when I can rip it though.

Actually I have been devising a plan. Sort of a wye with a quick remove cover or plate or valve on one outlet, the other goes thru the muffler. Turn a handle or a couple wing nuts and instant quiet or loud.

A few years ago, I welded 2 2.5 inch cherry bombs together. One on top of the other. Just welded the bodys together. I then made a Y adapter from the 3 inch stock pipe to the dual cherrys. I then put the outlets into a 5 inch pipe that came out before the passenger wheel. It was quiet. Sounded pretty good. I had to run a muff because I plowed with that truck and I don't think people would like a strait pipe at 4 in the morning.

I got a international tractor muffler from tractor supply and cut out the restriction washer. It sounds good.
I just couldn't see paying the big bucks for the stock muffler.
