IC vs NON-IC turbo question

So I'm looking at buying a bd exhaust brake. I want to buy the whole turbo. Its off a 93 so its a 18cm housing right? Were these wastegated from the factory? Would that turbo be an upgrade over my stock 91 non-ic turbo? The compressor looks a tad bigger. Also does anyone know what size the bd exhaust brake down pipe would be. Looks about 3-3.5"

Any quick responces would be great

The brake will fit your turbo fine.

You will need to swap compressor sections or fab a new intake and come up with a new connector boot for the crossover to bolt the whole '93 turbo on.

Until you do the 47RH conversion you might as well stick your hand out the window.

Sorry I forgot to change my sig. Ditching the 47rh. Going 5-speed.

But my exhaust housing is different then that 93. Its a wastegated turbo. I don't mind fabbing an intake. I'm also trying to get the whole intercooler set up too.

So is that turbo any better? Would that exhaust brake fit a HX40?

I'm getting this stuff cheap. Trying to get it before anyone else does haha.

If it's wastegated it's not original '93.

Is the gate held to the turbine housing with a band clamp, or is it the style that replaces the whole backplate? If it is held on with a band clamp it will clamp right onto your turbo. You can use some 2nd gen downpipes to make the connection from there.

It will not fit an HX-40.

Still it's not going to slow you down as long as you are running the 727.

The back of the turbo has a bolt pattern like an 2nd gen. Wastegate is under the turbo between the exhaust housing and compressor. Maybe its an hx35? I forgot to read numbers off of it. Yes I realize it won't work because I don't have a lockup converter but I'm doing the 5-speed at the same time I put the turbo/exhaustbrake on

If it was me I'd throw the whole turbo on.

Haha that's what I wanna know! I want to use the whole turbo. I'm trying to get the whole core support with radiator and intercooler. Don't the IC truck radiators cool better?

yea the 91.5-93 Crossflow radiators cool better.

The turbo could be a WH1C and thats why its throwing you off... 91.5-93 Turbos have a 56mm compressor wheel and the HX35 and WH1C both have a 56mm compressor wheel also. Wh1C's came on 94's and early 95's.

I believe the HX35's on the Stick-shift 24 valve trucks are 58mm compressor.

I'd throw the whole turbo on with the w/g and all, What exh. housing does it have?

All I know right now is that the turbo doesn't have a v-band clamp on the exhaust. The turbo is wastegated and the compressor intake is bigger. Its got a slight downward bend then has the hookup for the exhaust brake. the downpipe looks like it might be 3.5. Not too sure.

What are the different exhaust housing sizes on that turbo?

well if it has the "downward bend" cast elbow on the back its probably an HX35 or a WH1C

If its an HX35 or WH1C (which it probably is being wastegated) it'll have a 12cm housing and thats what you want with a 5 speed !!!

If the compressor housing is Clamp on (v-band) then its a WH1C

Might want to rethink that one, Brandon. Exhaust housings attach the same way...

Half right, keep working on it and you'll get it.
