I Love My First Gen!!!
So I saw a 2nd gen 24 valve on the side of the road pouring a can of fuel into the tank. I stopped and asked if he needed any tools to bleed his lines, but he said no, but the truck wouldn't start. Guy was pretty clueless about his diesel, but I started to bleed the lines for him, and I couldn't get #2 injector because the grid heater is in the way, and couldn't get #6 because the cab hangs so far over it and there are wires in the way and the ring that sticks up. He RAN IT OUT so all 6 needed to be bled, so we took my truck to menards, bought a cheap 3/4 combo wrench (no line wrenches) and I put it to a bench grinder at school (mile away) so that it would clear grid heater better but couldn't get #6. Then I thought about bleeding #6 at the IP.
Still what a piece of junk to work on. I can't believe that the grid heater has to come out to bleed #2 with a regular wrench! Got it running though. Guy was happy! He was in a hurry so I didn't tell him about the great community we have here, but he also goes to UWP so I will see him around.

I have done a lot of work on a friend's '99. There is nothing about them that is easy to work on. I am reminded how good I have it every time I put a wrench to someone else's truck. At least he knows how to do it now, and he has the wrench in case he ever has trouble again. lol
Most people I know work on their own vehicles as well. Whenever I pop the hood on the Utility truck or someone comes in the shop for a beer and see the dually, they always exclaim how simple and easy it looks to work on things, not to mention all the space. I've always been lucky, all my vehicles have been like that. The old Falcon, my old Wrangler (with a 4 banger, the 6 cyl is cramped), the Mercedes diesel, and the old Ford IDI diesel was probably the most cramped.

yes its so Nice to be able to climb into the engine compartment and work on things. Those 2nd gen 24 valves are a nightmare! I think even the 3rd gens have more room than the 2nd gens!
I had to put a altr.,/water pump belt on a 91 GEO TRACKER today. Thought about rolling it over on its top jumpup astraddle of it ,so i could get to the aircond bolts ( cause thats where you loosen it) But it's got a almost new rag top on it. Y'a think they put all the parts in a big box w/lid shake it till it don't rattle ,and bam!!!!! a car .
I know it is a good practice to bleed all inj. when you run a diesel out of fuel, but I have started plenty of old tractors by only cracking 2-3 lines. Not sure if the Cummins is special, but I would assume they will start and run on 3 good firing cyl. long enough for the other 3 to bleed out themselves. They miss and smoke, but usually clean up and run pretty good shortly afterwards.

there not that hard to work on.a p pump CA, truck is harder to work on then a 24v and the IP can be changed in a couple hours I have both , the 1st gen is the simplest but ,24V are not hard at all .and MY 01 has given me zero problems other then 1 track bar. you want hard to work on try the 6.4 powerstroke you cant get to anything but the dip stick and radiator cap.

I can only imagine what the new PS 6.7 is like.
You think a 24v is bad. My 6.7 was like looking under the hood of a spaceship...

But I got it whipped now.
