I dont get it....
Everyone rants and raves about going from a stock H1C to a HX35. and i dont get it..... they both have 56mm comp. wheels (if H1C is intercooled) so how can it make a big difference and push more air if its the same size comp. wheel? i know it will help spool up because of the 12cm housing and be nicer around town. but as for lowering egt's? how is this possible?

i don't understand it either Brandon. As far as i know the only differences are what you mentioned. The wastegate could be helpful down the road when you running more boost to help bleed off excess. I think you money is more wisely spent on a compressor and wheel upgrade for you stock h1c

If you go from a H1C/18.5 or God forbid the 21 cm housing, to an HX-35/12 you are going to notice a huge difference - it's like a whole new truck. But it's due to the turbine housing change, not the compressor side. Put the 12 cm on the H1C and performance will be similar, but you will get a lot of compressor surge at low RPM and medium to high boost.

NonIC'd came with a H1c. It had a 3" inlet on it. Its called the baby H1C. I am not sure of the wheel size. The outlet was made for a hump hose to go over it.
IC'd came with a H1C with a 4" inlet and the 56MM wheel. The outlet is flanged to accept a 90 degree elbow for the IC hookup.
I noticed very little difference going from a H1C to a HX35. I used the same 16cm housing on both. I did see a noticable difference when I went to the HX40 with a 16cm housing.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I beleive non I/C 88 - early 91 was the 50mm wheel H1C. Late 91-93 I/C trucks was the 56mm WH1C. All 95 2nd gen, WH1C
96-98 HX35. Maybe I'm wrong, but pretty sure I'm not.

I might be mistaken, but I recall seeing somewhere that the 1 ton trucks had a larger compressor than the 3/4 ton, something like 56mm. Maybe that's only the chassis cabs?

This is crazy. some guys have 54's and 56's and 50's
Heres what i thought.
NON i/c was 54mm baby h1c with small inlet
i/c was 56mm with 4 inch inlet. and i thought we discovered in an old thread i had made that a one ton dually truck had the same turbo as any other intercooled first gen cummins. Bullcrap here or what?? How do you accurately go about measuring the comp. wheel to get a 2mm difference between 54 and 56 CaptainChrysler??

I measured the wheel itself. I am fairly sure it was 54mm.
I had a WH1C cover on the baby H1C and I would say there about 3mm between the blade tips and the cover. So it probably is a 50mm wheel.

i had the 50 mm and going to the gillete allowed me to lose over 300 egts and make a ton more power. i was wondering if a 14 housing would be worth it to change my 18.5 or would it not matter? or even a 16cm for that matter
