HX40w Turbo

I was thinking about replacing my h1c with a hx40w that I removed from a fire truck with a 300 hp mechanical 8.3L at work. The reason it was removed was that the wastegate cover leaked when the exhaust brake was actuated. I can get it for core value, $100. I'm wondering what i would gain over my setup now and how well it will work when I trade my 190s for pods. I know I'll need a 4in downpipe and a flange adapter, but what size and is there anything else I'll need. Also does anyone know what pressure it wastegates at?

That would be a nice turbo with you setup , and would support pods.

As long as it has a 16cm housing and a T3 flange (So it'll bolt up), you'll like it.

Is there any way tell what size the housing is, both turbine and compressor? Also the flange looks bigger than I remember mine being, but I'll check tonight. Any suggestions on where to get a flange adapter and downpipe?

Check a place called columbia river mandral bending, they make all kinds of flanges. They shoud have one to allow you to use the 40 on ur stock manifold. The housing size will be stamped on the inside of the exhaust housing foot. You prolly have to take somecarb cleaner and a rage to wipe off the soot, but its there!

the backside of the turbine housing, next to the outlet, should have a stamp in the casting with the size. if the flange looks bigger than your remember, it's more than likely a t4. you can always make or find an adapter so it can bolt up to your manifold.

HX40's have it on the inside of the exhaus like sgreen said. you're thinking H1C where its on the back of the housing, stamped 18.5 or 21

Would this have been worth $300 and $150 for older one?
I passed 2 international cores, they've been rebuilding those motors left and right(something about rear cylinder lubrication). One was off a 2008-9 maxxiforce and the other one off an older 2000 international. They did the top end of a dumptruck but didn't get a new turbo for that, it looked the biggest. Not sure what it was exactly but it looked big with a t4 flange.

Edit: It was a cat motor, ford dump.

I looked at it and it has an 8 blade compressor, but the turbine housing appears to be a 19cm. Will this be ok, I'm going to pods this spring, or will it be laggy?

I don't know of a 14cm for the 40, but I wouldn't run a 19, you should be able to pick up a used 16cm with a t-3 mount for ~100. I got one from the local turbo shop for ~$80.

Well that's kinda what I figured. Anyone know what size the compressor usually is? Also how would my h1c handle the pods? Hot and smokey is my guess.

I believe the compressors come in 56, 58 and 60mm.

Even my super 40 is sitting at 1600 at the end of 4th with the pump and timing maxxed... (pods)
