hx35 a how to? best turbo upgrades for money?

Guys ive been reading alot about this hx35 turbo and i want to get one. also i was wondering what the benefits are lower egts and more boost i imagine. Also i wanted to know if it is a direct bolt on to an h1c. i would love to have more boost and power in general. what is the best housing for an automatic? will it bump my exhaust backwards? thanks guys

the best housing for an auto id say with out the egts goin to high would be 16cm. but you have 4.56 gears so you wouldnt need anything smaller than that. definely not. lol

I would just get a compressor kit for your H1C. With the gearing you are running and an automatic, a smaller turbine housing is not going to be helpful.

hey guys i was wondering with the hx 35 with the 12cm housing on the non i/c first gens 5 speed what the exhaust sound difference is with 4 inch exhaust (i.e. louder, deeper etc) i know there will be more turbo whistle but will it make the exhaust any different other than that

No, when you are standing next to the tailpipe there is a WOOOSHING noise that you can only get with a hx35.and with the 4 inch exhuaust then you will really hear it. remove the silencer ring and it will really whistle at low rpm. not that bad on the highway though. My dad used to have a 96 with the stock hx35 and its sounded so cool when it was idling. id just stand next to the tailpipe tip and listen.

Not really any noise difference at low boost, but when the boost gets up there it sounds different. Cant explain it in "type" tho unfortunately.

Hey Nick, I would just do the 60mm wheel swap on your H1C best bang for the buck. Just my $.02

Gillette Diesel Service is the best deal.

I would just call and talk to them. Sometimes they are back-ordered, sometimes not. I guess I got lucky, and had mine within days of ordering.
I think they call it a "stage 2", but just ask for a 60mm compressor for an H1C.

Install is easy I have the HTT IV pretty close to the same thing. there is a stick on changing compressor wheels. Takes about an hour to do for the first time. Hardest part if you are changing the backing plate is the 4 little bolts hold the plate on.

As far as installing it, it's very simple. Here's the wrie-up from the sticky. You won't have to mess with the backing plate for a HTT stage III or GDS stage 2 (they are the same thing)

Got to have a torque wrench that reads "backwards" as compressor nut is LH thread.

Mine was like $180 plus shipping as of last december.
