Hx35?
Hx35?
I got an HX35 today for free. it came off of a test engine ( I work at a vocational school)
It looks like it will bolt right up to the exhaust it uses a band clamp type of attachment. Is there any thing else I should do to the turbo before putting it on to improve performance?
thanks steve

yea it'll bolt right up. may have to figure out something with the wastegate.
You could put an upgrade 60mm compressor wheel on it. It'll push more air over the stock 56mm compressor wheel on the hx35.
What year truck are you putting it on and what year is the turbo from?? Transmission in the truck your putting it in??
an hx35 is a good upgrade becuase it has a 12cm exhaust housing and its wastegated so it'll spool SUPER fast= fun.. .and it will push more cooler air/power over a stock H1c on a Non i/c truck. (not sure on year of your first gen.)

Possibly fill out your signature with your truck details?so we can help you out along the way??

Thanks for the reply brandon. Its a 1991.5 intercooled 5-speed truck. I dont know the year of the turbo it was on a test engine only has about 14 hours on it. It says 18 on the exhaust housing, does that mean its an 18cm housing? its that good or bad?
would i be able to just swap the exhaust housings on my H1C, my truck currently has an 18cm housing and the HX35 has a 12cm housing? Would this do anything for performance? Then maybe get the 60mm compressor upgrade for the H1C. I hate to get rid of the H1C because it dosent have many mile on it since it was rebuilt. Thanks
18cm will be LAGGY unless you have TONS o fuel!!

sgreen, im confused.
Your H1c on the 91.5 truck says 18?? thats rare. most 91.5's had 21cm laggy housings.
If the HX35 is truly an HX35 and its wastegated then its a 12cm and that will be FUN on a 5 speed truck around town.
If you can get the hx35 complete for pretty cheap then go for it.
My opinion i'd stay non wastegated and just buy a 16cm housing with the 60mm kit for your Current H1c

A 14cm is a waste of money from what i hear. same egt's as a 12cm and a 14 is way overpriced.
A 16cm is fine. I rode in a 5 speed truck this past weekend with a 16cm and it lit immediately.
Theres not even any thing wrong with stock spool up of a 5 speed truck with an 18.5cm housing???????? imagine a 16cm???????

Yes it is an 18cm housing on the H1C, I checked on the housing were "wanna" said it would be and sure enough its an 18( some one may have changed it out before. I think your right Im just going to get the upgrade kit from GDS and be done with it. Thanks for your input!!!

An HX35 does not have to be wastegated. If it was a industrial application, it might not be. At work we have some real odd *****, like a VP44 12V with a 2-1/2" hose outlet non-gated HX35. The HX just replaced the H1 series. We even have 4bt 4.5's with a 16cm hx35.
It all depends on the HP rating and intended application. Our 169 hp 5.9's run at 2500 all day. Sometimes you need 50 hp, sometimes you need all 169 hp, sometimes you need more
. They only run hydraulic pumps, so basically they idle or run wide open. There is not supposed to be any load below 2500 rpm, so they don't need a tight housing.
