HX-35 swap for H1C

Will a HX-35 swap for a H1C? Can i just bolt up the HX-35 onto the exhaust manifold? or would i have to put a different manifold on? and how much is a rebuild kit for a HX-40? and how hard is it to turn a HX-35 Hybrid?

thanks

Yes, it will bolt up to your existing manifold. Making a hybrid out of the H1C is a better deal than buying a used HX-35, though. Check out what HTT has for the H1C first.

I think the exhaust manifold is the same but the down pipe is probably different. The connection to the crossover pipe will need to be adapted like I did mine. I changed an WH1C in for a H1C and I had to grind the compressor outlet and use a reducer hose. See my gallery for pics.

In the process of swapping them myself. Ordered a pile of other hot parts from cummins today, but one question, are the drain tubes the same between the H1C and HX35W and if they aren't anybody know part #s for the tube and gasket?

All samey- same on the drain tube. The late model '35's will need a backplate or turbine housing swap to fit a 1st gen downpipe

Hi Tech Turbo, Hybrids are turbos that generally use the inducer side from on turbo say an H1E with the exducer of another like our H1C. They're frankensteined in laymans terms.

Anybody know where I can buy a (preferably stainless) weld flange with the 3" cummins flare on one side and 4" on the other so I can fab a downpipe? Not the HX35 to Hx40 downpipe flange.

A hybrid is a small turbo with the compressor off a big turbo. The PDR-35 and Dodgezilla turbos are HX-35/40 hybrids. The turbo you can build with HTT's kit is an H1C/E hybrid. Same basic setup, just slightly different construction.

well if i get lucky i wont be buying the HX-35, and with the exhaust part, i already have to replace all of it(home made down pipe from previous owner=complete cobble job) so i would probably just get it for a newer dodge and have to customize it for my chevy. and which would be better(bang for the buck?) the H1E/C hybrid or the 35/40? cuz if i can get the 35 for free im gonna jump on it. thaks for the help

The HX-35 is a better turbo out of the box than the H1C. But when it comes to modifying the compressor, the H1C is cheaper to do because it's all bolt on, no machining. Performance will be equivalent for both types of hybrid.

Here's the deal as it pertains to HTT. They (HTT) have 4 stages of compressor housing upgrades. The HX35 will only accept the first three, where the H1C can have the backing plate machined to accept the stage IV. HTT can also send you a machined plate if you don't want the extra fuss of having yours machined. For about 300 bucks, a stage IV H1C is the way to go, IMO...as long as your H1C is in good shape. Most are because they spent most of the last 15 or so years making less that 15 pounds of boost...

The wastegate will be determined by which exhaust housing you're running. The 18.5 and 21 came stock on the 1st gens, and are not wastegated by their nature. The popular 16 upgrade is also not wastegated. You could swap to a 12 off a newer truck which is indeed wastegated and is an awesome housing for a mild-to-medium truck. I love mine and will try to run it with the stage IV when I get it...
