HX-35 or HX-40

Whats your opinion on one of these turbos on a first generation. Anybody running them on their truck? Is there any difference in installation

Hx40 has a 4 inch exhaust oulet

hx35 has a 3 inch exhaust outlet just like your stock h1c

so a 4inch downpipe will be needed.

a hx40 is a nice upgrade, as long as it has the 16cm housing and not the 18cm its pretty much an awesome upgrade. it has a 60mm comrpessor wheel compared to the hx35's 56mm and the H1C's 56mm. Bigger exhaust outlet.

An HX35 is a good upgrade for a non I/C truck with the "baby" H1C, bt if its an intercooled truck, it's not worth the effort.

HX40's are pretty good turbos, but they do not like to be barked at all. They share the same shaft as an HX35, and barking will cause the shaft to break.

I still have stock injectors, so I won't be messing with the fuel screw. I have a 16cm housing on the way, but that's all I really plan on doing for a little while. I need 6 new tires, and I have to get those before I can do anything else. Then a stout tranny. Then the fuel mods.

That's what I'm trying to avoid. I'm only planning to make 350rwhp so it should still be very reliable.

When my brothers '97 was right around 350rwhp, it was very reliable. He towed our parents boat with it numerous times, and hauled farm equipment so I have no doubt in my mind that 350rwhp is reliable. I'm taking all the steps beforehand, to make sure all the tings that might go wrong, get fixed, so they won't go wrong.

Barking is when you let off the accelerator suddenly under boost. The turbo will make a "woofwoofwoof" sound. It's bad because you are stalling the compressor, it puts a lot of strain on the turbo shaft. Repeated barking will break a '40 because it uses the same diameter shaft as a '35 but it has a larger (and much heavier at 40,000 RPM) turbine wheel.

Boost depends on fuel.
