I had hoped this thing would be blowing cold air by now, but, all takes time if you want to save your hard earned dollars. Going to try and get it installed today, hopefully. Not a lot of auto repair shops can help when you tell them you want to keep the R-12. They are just not set-up for R-12 anymore.

Found a local upholstery shop to replace my headliner for an amazingly low price (I thought) of $65.00. It looks great!!!

Thanks Up Front

You should be able to install it yourself, the clutch is an easy install and only requires removal of the serp belt...Mark

WELL, help is probably the word that is most fitting currently.
Took my belt off and turned the compressor it sounds/feels rough as if it has a grinding wheel inside. I suppose after about 7 yrs of not being used it will condensate and rust on the inside??? Any thoughts??

Thanks Up Front

I am not sure what it should sound or feel like, but I am pretty sure that it should not feel like a grinding wheel. Sounds like the compressor is bad, but not 100% sure...Mark

Saga continues

Well my problems have not been resolved yet.

My A/C hasn't worked for yrs. When I 1st wanted to check it and fix it the low side would not and still will not give me a pressure reading. I tapped on the schrader valve and there is pressure and the clutch has voltage to it. Clutch is bad, so I have found a clutch which the A/C mechanic said then was all I needed. Well, last Friday when I went to have them put the clutch on they said when they turned the compressor it felt rough and maybe I should go ahead and buy a new compressor. After so long a period of time not working would it be a normal condition for the compressor to be hard to turn or feel rough. And my thoughts are what is the problem with not being able to get a reading at the low side. Is the schrader valve bad or is there a blockage in the system?

How would I be able to evacuate the system and save the R-12 (in what container)? No one I have talked to in the industry has facilities to capture R-12.

Thanks Up Front

Strange, that is required by federal law. Every one of them here has a recovery system and they are not cheap. There are people here that went to all the wrecking yards and recovered all the old R-12...Mark
