How often should u change your battery cables?

I was thinking tonight about my battery an starter. I've been having some issue with the truck starting for the last few weeks. An I got to thinking that maybe its time for some new main cables for the battery an starter. So I guess I will be building some cable in the very near future .. Sooner than I want too. An I thought about doing a write up on this. So I was just wondering how often do u change them out?

Is changing these common if they aren't corroded?
I had a 66 Alfa Romeo and it had the Original cables. The electrical system was a designed by, well, 1966-era Italians, but the battery cables were fine.

I replaced mine only because I have the cable and I did not like the old chewed up terminals.

I made a set of cables using 3/0 welding cable and wrought copper crimp on ends, I have my own crimper.

Or you can use wrought copper lugs and military terminals.

I sealed the ends using adhesive filled heavy duty shrink tubing.

If you build your own make sure you use at least 3/0 cable, and while you are at it add a 3/0 ground cable from your engine block to the chassis.

Nothing will kill your cables quicker than an overcharging off gassing battery with blown post seals, keep the vent clear and good impregnated felt washers under your terminals, This is why terminals corrode.
