How many turns?
How many turns?
I was talking to my friend that has a first gen and we started to talk about the smoke screw/ star wheel thingy.... anyway, he adjusted his and now he has more power and smoke. I had someone mess with mine and I still dont have anything.. I'm not sure what was done to mine, I cant remember if he said he screwed it in or out.. or how many turns either way... crap! I want to mess with it but I dont know where it is any more from stock.. My question is if I screw it all the way down, to get a base line to start from, how many turns out should I be for the best performance?
Thanks a lot guys!!

smoke screw - on top of pump
star wheel - inside the top
power screw - back of pump
there really isnt any set number of turns for anything on the pump, its all how you drive and what you like for smoke vs. pedal.
here is the basics on how to tune your entire pump. the power screw will give you more benefit than the star wheel.

if you want some real power and you have a pyro then tune the pump like it says, go a little farther if you want but be carefull it doesnt run away.
Read the sticky for tips on runaway and other good performance stuff too.

I think its the smoke screw on top that was messed with. how manys turns out do I need to be on that? Also, how much can I turn in the power screw on the back without having to remove that collar thingy?
If I can get one turn out of it I should still be able to notice some power right? Will one turn mess w my idle much?
p.s. and it should be clockwise for the rear power screw and counter clockwise for the smoke screw...right

Both clockwise for more smoke and power. 1 turn on the fuel screw will give you in the neighborhood of 100 rpms. Not a big deal in a mnaual, but with an auto, it may want to push at idle in gear.
any tricks on adjusting that thing? what size wrench for the jam nut? I was looking at it this morning and it looks like a PIA to get to!!! It also looks like there is a lot of room for adjustment before the collar would be a problem... you said I could get about a turn and a half out of it without removing the collar, will this give me more smoke? and will in run away on a turn and a half?!
thanks
