So my question is how many peices of rubber can a VE pump eat befor something really baaaad happens.. I hate to go to the pull cord method or is there a better shut off soinoid???

Have you been modifying the plunger tip before installing the new solenoids? Mine is still going strong 3 years + since I modified it.

Yeah, before you put the next one in, chuck the plunger in a low speed drill and sand the tip flat, then radius the edge over.

The factory setup is concave with a pretty sharp lip, that leaves a thin and kinda floppy edge hanging out in a high velocity/high pressure fuel stream so it gets tore off. Flattening the tip and radiusing the edge makes it stronger and more "aerodynamic". That's my theory, anyway.

I dunno. Most of the rubber winds up in the delivery valves, the rest gets caught by the screens in the injectors. Is it still running smooth?

If it's running smooth don't worry about it.

It wouldn't hurt to pull out the return line banjo to inspect and clean that screen if you suspect debris in the pump. Maybe nothing else is presently damaged, but could be long term issues due to reduced cooling/flow through the return line.

just had this happen twice on my truck, once yesterday at noon replaced with a different rubber tip and again tonight, both times after running a custom cut fuel pin and running it hard
time to reshape the tip i guess

Is that the little short line on the top right of the pump?

No, that's the AFC. Down lower, with a line disappearing back alongside the block...
