Hahahaha, I did a search as well and it seems most people own these trucks for years and never even know they have one. It's in one of the little light things by the left turn signal. Anyone know about these things? Is there a code reader I could go to Napa and use?

Were it me, I would find that silly bulb, yank it out, lay it on a hard surface, then STOMP on it, but that's just me.

Sooooo, in your expert opinion I have nothing to worry about? I hope the alt isn't on it's way out, this truck might get expensive pretty quick. Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions, I thought I knew everything till I actually bought the truck (no regrets there).

If that computer gizmo has already had some stuff bypassed by the previous owner, then he may very well have rewired the alternator to an external regulator.

Look around and see if there is an external regulator under the hood somewhere.

If the alternator should ever happen to quit, instead of replacing with the same type, it is way much better to install a 110-555 Leeve-Neville.

Us guys will find plenty to keep you busy ---- and broke.

Haha right on, thanks for the advice. I just went and checked out the wiring and I was pretty sure he installed an external regulator, until I went back to the PO's catalogue of reciepts... sure enough 1500 miles ago he went to the dealer because the wait to start light was on while driving. To fix it they installed a stand alone voltage regulator and replaced the battery. I think I'm in the clear on this one. I still hope that dang light doesn't come on tomorrow. On my dad's 07.5 that thing always spells very expensive trouble.
