How to identify turbine housings?
My truck has a different engine in it than it came with (engine is out of an automatic equipped truck) and according to the CPL number (1351) it's a '91.5 or '92, meaning it would have had the 21 cm turbine housing. How can I tell if that's what's there, or if the '93 turbo was kept during the engine swap?

Take a small mirror and look on the backside (firewall side) of the exhaust housing. You will see the words Holset and then 21 or 18 cast into the housing.

I'd just add I usually have to hop up on the fender and contort myself to get the mirror and myself into place to see. The casting is basically in the hardest place to see, the far down side, IIRC

It has the 21 However, I killed a KDP for a site member and he's sending me his old 12 cm wastegated housing off an HX35. I'm assuming it'll fit because he's running a 16 cm now, I plan to get a new downpipe and have it shortened and maybe get a Turbo Master so I can adjust the boost. Sound like a good plan? Should get instant spoolage! ;D

Yup, it should spool real quick, keep in mind it'll get a bit "winded" on the top end though.... watch your EGT's..

Bob.
