How bad is it to run without the KSB hooked up?

Just as said above. I just bought a 93 and didn't notice it at the time, but the KSB isn't hooked up. I couldn't even find the wire that went to it. It still starts and shuts off fine, but could something bad be happening because of this???

I'm gonna tear into it soon and find out what's going on with the wiring, because there's other funny stuff going on as well. Hopefully I didn't get myself into a nightmare...

On an intercooled truck, the worst that will happen is white smoke when the engine is cold. Nothing to worry about.

It won't hurt a thing as long as it starts and runs fine. Most of the time when it is inop it is the sensor on the intake. I had to replace mine last year.

The KSB is controlled by a temperature switch in the intake that activates it when the intake temp is below a certain value. What it does is increase the internal pressure in the pump so the timing is more advanced when the solenoid is active.
Having it unhooked won't hurt anything.

what would it hurt to unplug it on a non intercooled, for timing advance, if timing has not been bumped?

Thanks guys, that takes a little worry out of it.

Smoky Beast, what I think one of them said before is that it advances the timing when it's energized, so if it's unhooked, no advance...

440_50, that is correct but only for IC trucks

Smoky Beast, when the non-ic is unplugged it gains an advance by raising the case pressure in the pump. it also gives the equivalent to a lot more than an 1/8th bump. it is not a recommended way to gain timing.
