You're engine is making probably over 200 horsepower, but you're tranny is responding by turning all of the power into heat instead of motion.

A Hughes torque convertor costs under $400 and is good for around 350 horsepower; a Goerend's torque convertor costs twice as much but is good for twice as much power.

A good torque convertor, perhaps coupled with a shift kit or valve body, is required to put your power to the ground.

First thing I check on a 1st gen is the throttle travel. Make sure you are getting it all. Swapping the return spring and throttle rod holes on the throttle arm makes a huge difference.

You're just not a very good salesman Dave.

Dave's right. You will get a lot more travel than you can use. I had to drill a hole halfway between the two so my cruise control and auto trans would work right. The TV cable sees the same amount of travel but the IP sees a lot more. This is just an adjustment. The cruise control would not settle down on any one speed. It would "hunt" constantly raising and lowering looking for the sweet spot. By drilling a hole in between and moving the throttle link to that point I found the best of both worlds. Oh, the throttle arm is hardened steel. Don't think you can just "pop" a hole in it with a common jobber's drill. I had to use a grinding bit and a Dremel tool being careful to not melt anything.
