Hello, newbee with?? on CPS

Hi everyone, I am doing a conversion on my truck. I am installing a 1993 Cummins in a 1996 Chevy 3500 4x4. I have reconfigured the original wire harness to work with a trans control module (a GM stand alone unit) for a
4L80E trans. I was having a problem getting info I needed about the GM ESS (engine speed sensor) on how many pulses it makes per each RPM. So I Hooked it up to a scope and determined it has 8 pulses per RPM. The TCM needs that input so I am going to modifiy the harmonic balancer so the CPS makes 4 pluses instead of 2 on the Cummins engine.
Anyway, this is my question. Anybody know what voltage the CPS (crank position sensor) needs? Also I will need to know what wire is the hot, ground and signal. Maybe someone can use a meter on thiers to find out or a scan of a shop manual??
That is about the last thing I need to get the trans fixed up.

Thanks

The crank sensor is a hall effect sensor, it makes it`s own voltage/signal, very much like an ABS wheel speed sensor.

wannadiesel: Thank you very much.
ChrisLib: I was needing the supply voltage to the CPS not the signal out, But thank you also.
On another question where do I post a TPS and CPS wire pigtail needed ad? Thanks again.

Well I got around to the CPS/ESS again today. I have a problem though, the wire colors posted earlier don't match what I have. I am looking at the wire coming of the sensor itself. They are black, silver and another black.
Is there another way to determine what each wire is?
Maybe another way to do this is, if you look at the plug from the sensor (the one with male pins) with the flat plastic alignment ontop and the top left pin and top right pin horizontal and just below the plastic alignment. The center will be below and center. So, if someone can tell me what top left, top right is that would help alot. I assume center is the pulse/signal out. Thanks for your time.
