heater control switch

Does the vacuum hold the switch open or does it hold it closed? The reason I ask is that I have a wabasco heater and I was thinking of running the hot water thru the heater core first and then the engine. But if the switch is closed when the truck is not running I would have to figure something else out.

Heater valve is closed by applying vaccume . . .normally open.
