When my a/c runs it heats the one of the main power feeds coming into the box. I think it might be what keeps frying my ignition switch. I could prolly do something similar. What amp rating should I use on the relays.

The company I linked to has a heavy duty 40 amp version for around $3, but that would be overkill for the HVAC system. A 30 amp relay would supply that fine. Before I went to that kind of trouble I'd replace the blower motor to see if that cures it. That's the only thing in the HVAC system that really draws a lot of current. The A/C clutch is already on a relay run off the PCM.

i'm in the process of doing this too, a good source for relays is a salvage yard- mid 80's to mid 90's gm products, lots of neat brackets to hang them on too. i bought a 7-relay hanger with 7 bosch relay(good ones with the weather pack connectors) and a 3 relay hanger with 3 of the same relays(for the rear of the truck(trailer connector). paid 20.00 for all at the local u-pull-it. when you find the setup you want just pull the wires as far down into the harness as you can and cut them free.

one more note, running the high and low beams together will shorten the life of the bulb considerably-builds up too much heat in the housing. no big deal with 5.00 cheapies but start buying silverstars every 6 months and it will get old quick

The trigger wires are the two that go down to the bottom of the diagram in the middle. One goes to the factory low beam wire, the other goes to tha factory high beam wire.

Does anyone know where to get some VERY bright driving lights. I'll be doing a lot of driving in the next month (1200 KM at a time) on roads that don't ahve much traffic on them. They can be illegal as it will be in the middle of no where .

I installed a pair of those Hella's and I really like them. That was the first mod I did on my truck 13 years ago.

Had a dead spot right in the middle of their beam. The only way some of these conversions gain you anything is if you get some "E" code or european bulbs. They are technically only legal for offroad use in US. Usually in the 90-110W ratings.

thanks again WD! had my buddy help me out this weekend and wire the ol beast up for me. switched in the h4 housings with 90/130 bulbs at the same time. sure is nice to see.

I wired mine with 3 relays and one of the bulbs blew up after about 3 weeks. It didn't just burn out the filaments it blew all apart. It left the inside of the headlight assembly coated with dust. I was careful not to touch the bulb then I installed it so that should not have caused it. They must run too hot with both filaments on at the same time, nice and bright though.
