Question Headlight relays with DRL's ?

OK so lost the headlights on the way to work.
Didn't feel like working on it in the snow (gotta get a shop built) so took it to the dealer they diagnosed (god help me maybe they got it right for once ) as switch
That sounds right as I could get the lights to work holding the high beam lever

When I get it back and a bit better weather i'd like to put relays on the headlights but wonder if anyone has done it with the daytime running light module ??? and if so some pointers PLEASE.

As I don't need drl's I also wonder if anyone has bypassed the module ? The wiring diagram it doesn't make it look too tough.

Thanks in advance ,

Brian

I have done this mod to my truck, my DRL didn't operate afterwards.
( I don't miss it anyway) I think it is because the lower voltage in
DRL mode is not enough to operate the coils in the relays.

Jim Lane was working on a relay setup that was compatable with the DRLs but I havent seen anything on it in a while.

the more I read this link

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...l#HarnessTypes

the more I beleave this guy has a harness that could work with daytime running lights

but I dont have a wiring diagram or a truck to verify this. So its still a guess.

although If A person was to buy the switched power harness and it dont work right it could be easly converted to a standard harness and disconnect the DRL"s

good luck

Bob

I've done the upgrade with DRL's. Go ahead and do Jim Lanes relay upgrade. After the upgrade my lights would pulse on DRL mode due to the low voltage going to the relay.

I just unplugged the DRL module for now but I will be connecting them up soon.

According to the FSM, it looks as though the red with black stripe wire from the module harness is the ticket (output to headlight). I'm going to cut that line, and splice it into the highbeam output from the relay, that is #87 terminal. This will work as the relay will be bypassed for the DRL, but everything else will work as it should.

Since disconnecting my DRL module, I now plan on also installing a switch inside the truck to activate/deactivate the DRL's. I like the way the truck looks early evening with just the acc lights on and no headlights.

Just to give ppl an update. I finally finished this last night as stated in the above post and everything works as it should. Relayed highbeams, relayed lowbeams, relayed accessory headlights (switched in with highbeams) and fully funtional (switched) daytime running lights, only when I want them. Look out deer.
