Headlight comparison

Anyone running the free form headlights as opposed to the stock sealed beams? What kind of difference in light output or pattern does it make? I've been running Silverstars on the relay but I need to replace both headlights and have been looking at the free forms. What kind of bulb goes in there and do I need a different headlight socket? Thanks.

A little off subject kinda but I wired in a headlight relay the other day.

Put it in between headlight switch and dimmer. About 1 amp now flowing through headlight switch.

Had 10.84 volts @ headlight socket...Now I have 12.44 volts when I checked it. They are brighter for sure!

I've got 8k hid's in projection type H4 housings. I love them, I will never own another truck without Hid's. I've got maybe 150$ in my whole head light set up. And the stories I head about relayed silverstars makes me happy I only spent that money once.

Cheap ebay housings and at a car show there was a guy that was selling hid's out of the back of his van and the brand was smart4cars. Housings were 30 and hid kit was 100 cash.

How are the housings holding up? Are they plastic or glass lens? I have heard bad things about the plastic lens housings.

Glass, never get plastic! Been in there for 3 years now, still ok. I've got a small .22 cal hole in one of them. (don't ask, funny but I'm sure I can't share the story here on dtr). The projection cups are starting to get a little bit shaky. But for 30$ I can't complain and you can't notice it driving. You will have to cut the bucket in the back to give room for the bulb to stick through.
Sorry to the original poster for getting a bit off topic here.

That's fine...good information. I was wondering if anyone is using the Hella setup. A lot of them I've seen use H4 halogens with no high beam/low beam, but it looks like the Hella's do. For the price of Silverstars and as quick as I go through them with the relays, I'm thinking of doing something different.
