?Head gasket failure? UPDATE, Please look

I have what i believe is a head gasket failure between 5+6, when i crack the injectors, No 6, no change in the puff, puff out the intake past turbo, or on how poorly it idles, cracking no5 makes only a small differance on the loping idle, no 1234 make a big difference,
The injectors 5-6 i pulled, and switched, No difference in operation,
Looked into bores without injecters, looked good,
Pulled no 5+6, rotated engine so no 6 and no 5 had closed valves, Cant get to push air between them from 5 to 6 or 6 to 5, or out the intake oe exhaust valves, the cylinders seem to hold some pressure well, only about 100 psi, I dont have a compression gauge.
So i put the bugger back together, and bled the lines, fired er up, and let the bugger lope,,,, I took temps of the exhaust outlets as the engine warmed for a bit, I took the temp reading just before the exhaust manifold,
what i got after it ran for about 4-5 minutes was
1-2-3-4 were about 150*f
5 was about 140* f
6 was about 130*f
So here i am still wondering if there is anything alse i can do before pulling the nose in the garage and pulling the head,
Has anyone here any other suggestions on what i can do to confirm my thoughts?????
dazedandconfused.
Peter.

Peter, I'm stumped on this one. If the HG was blown between 5&6 you should be able to get 100 psi to leak through at a pretty good rate.

That is what i was thinking Dave,,, since the valves seem good, and no hole in piston, I think i will go ahead and order a Head gasket, Will the thick one reduce power, or tend to blow easier? I know it is only 1/2 mm thicker,
Mabey it just takes more than 100 psi to blow through, Kind of like a reed valve, each piston temporarly pushes it back into place??????? I dont know!?!?!?!?,, I too am stumped,
Peter.

I really think that you need to test the compression. You can get a diesel compression checker way cheaper than a head gasket (I got one from Harbour Freight cheap).

If the compression test tells you nothing then you could use some of the plumbing from the compression checker to do a leak down test of some sort.

Good Luck,

JP.

The thick head gasket will not blow easier. And I did not notice less power with mine. The only thing that I did notice is a little rougher idle at start up when it gets real cold out.

compression

before pulling the head id check the compression if it holds head gasket should be good if you dont have one borrow one its worth it
